Set for winter
BY HAL CLANS
Mei oft
We had our first taste of
winter driving early. On
Friday night Oct. 23 the
streets were covered with
approximately six inches of
snow causing driving cond-
itions
g
to be extremely `h$:
rardous.
A number of motorists
found themselves slipping
off the roadway and into
ditches. Huron County Road
12. south of town, ,was
estreniely slippery. One .car
was stranded for AIM two
and one-half hours.
I OW like to urge
esierYaaa to winterize their
automphijs: Mike sure you,

tires. and*" not let your gas
tank drop below a quarter-
filled. It is also advisable to
carry a shovel. a candle and a
sleeping bag or blanket.
Remember to stay awake if
stranded. and if visibility is
bad do not venture awes
from your car unless you can
see a house. At night make
certain you can see a lighted
house. Do not wander around
as you could become dis-
oriented and die of exposure.
Every winter we must
again not only winterize per
cars but also our driving.
Take it slow, be alert, and
look out for those snowplows.
