"fit in" Socially?
When a widow (or widower),begins to renew her Soda'
life, she must look first for GROUP activities, those
which do not involve couples or "pairs" of people
singing groups, school classes or arts and crafts. In
this way, the widow is ,not 'placing herself in the
awkWard position of being a "fifth wheel."
She will wish ,to find pursuits-that will-return -tir'hee'a----- —
feeling of accomplishment which, quickly leads to one of
confidence. Realizing one's oWin, • individuality and
capabilities, helps build up personal.courage and makes
a widow's social re-entry more rewarding.
Often during a happy marriage one mate may enjoy an
activity not shared by the other. As a widow, she may,
pursue-such an activity. Sometimes she doesn't do this
because she feels guilty, as if enjoying it would be
unfair to her deceased husband. Rather, she should use
this activity to express herself and bring out her total
personality.
