time will tell". The rides may
make a good coach look even
better, and a bad coach even
worse. Yeck points out both
Canadian. and American col,
leges already pass without a
centre red line.
The idea came from Bur
ape. Where, lest we forget.
the best hockey teams in,the
world now come from. The
ones that whip us when it
counts.
Senior pairs
And the referees hav7
been practising.
The addition of 'Tedford
means the Centenaires will
play most of their games
against four usual divisional
rivals and the newcomer.
Teams like Seaforth in the
Western D's north will play
40 regular., season games,
three rat home and three
,away 'with each divisional
opponent, and two games
(one at home and another
away) with each .of 'the five
teams in the south. The
schedule is unbalanced.
Each team in the south plays
only 36 games.
Yeck says new rules are a
trial, that's all. If it doesn't
work teams can go back to
the old rules in less than a
year if they decide to do so.
Another new rule this year
applies to five-minute fight-
ing majors. You get one in a
game this season and you're
gone to that famed "early
shower" for the balance of
the game, It's automatic.

Ivel, Eisler and Baier skated 'so well they
would have beaten them.
As it was they finished far in front of the
second place pair from the United States,
Vicki Heasley and Peter Oppegard, a
British pair and another Canadian pair.
Mr. Leitch says Baler and Eisler have
been em,pliasurg-the development of

choreography, in preparation for competi-
tions this season: The power and strength

international competition.

their next bigcompethion, Skate Moscow in
early December.
Lloyd , Eisler of EgmondVille and Lerri
Baler of Mitchell, both 18, finished first in
senior pairs at last week's 'St. Ivel figure
skating championships in England.
Canadians traditionally fare better as
juniors than seniors in international com-
petition. But this is starting to change says
the, area pair's coach Kerry Leitch of the
Preston Figure Skating Club. His peers
recognize him as the best junior skating
coach in this country, but he says two
Canadian pairs have won three senior
international firsts in the last year..
"-Vat-junior:pairs arestarting to mature,*
says Mr. Leitch. "Early success has been a
problem for'f;,;our young skaters. They

D teams will be experiment-
ing with two major rule
changes this season.
The rules may open up the
game, encourage passing
and, discourage cheap penal-
ties.
The red line hes, been
eliminated for the purpiose of
two-line passes. ich 44

many offside passes between
the bluelines.
All-minor penalties will be
served for their duration.
Meaning if the team with the
powerplay scores, a player
penalized on a minor infract-
ion won't automatically get
back onthe ice, as is the case
now. He has to stay in the
box until the clock says the
penalty hat been served in
its entirity. boesn't Matter
how many goals the other
team scores.
Theoretically, some goal- ,
ies will become shell
shocked. But that isn't the
idea. °
A disciplined team with
shifty pOwerplay could make
goons and slower opponents
look silly--=this season. By

Te Seaforth - Industrial
Hockey League play, in-
Hensel! thisryearl. The league
deaded this at its annual
opening meeting , held Sept.
19.1-Whife the decision was
not totally unexpected, it
could, pose a, problem during,
January and February. The
Kippen and Brucefield toads
are nasty al best during a
dorm.
In other business. Tom
Devereaux was elected pre-
sident while Steve Webster
will be the vice-president and
Jack Ungarian takes over the
of $31.00 must be paid by
Dec. 7. The draft will be held
Oct. 15. No one will know
until the draft time if we will
continue as a six team
league, or shrink to four. We
will play Sunday 'nights and
the first games will begin at
6:30-p.m.. sharp:-
The league is also looking
into a possible insurance
policy for all the players,-,,,It
Would only cost a couple of
finance portfolio. No doubt
Ungarian will do a better job
than his Counterpattlin Otta-
wa.
Etts Delvecchio performed
the financial duties last year
and his expertise has left the
:league in the black:- The
is a M0112-Profii outfit
and the money left over will
be spent ,in ' some way to
benefit the league. Buying
,new goalie equipment was
one possibility mentioned.
The fee will be $76 this dollars more per skater. It will cost the league a bit
year. The first 545.00.3aust- more to travel out of town
be paid by WednesdifY night this season but the cost to
Oct. 14. The final installment
play has been kept low so
organizers feel a little sacri-,
lice won't hurt.
Terry Craig has been
named . to head a referees
committee: Craig, 'Larry
Broome, Kevin Bennett and
Brian Dale will handle the
bulk of the. officiating. The
league is • also looking at
stiffer penalties, especially
for thus ewho liek'to let their
gums jiggle.
The SIHL hopes to begin
play Sun., Oct, - / With
everyone guaranteed 25
games.
