The idea for the creative playground came from Mr. Contois and the PTA executive at St. Columban School. It cost about $1,000 to build, not counting a lot of free labour by members of the community. Following this the P.T.A. served coffee and cookies to all who attended the opening. Playground Vera McKay from Detroit, Michigan is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. 'Albert Cronin. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Smith and family from Acton visited on the weekend at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Mac- Rae. Jenny and lan from London visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence, Ryan. Playground equipment in- stalled by the St. Columban Correspondent CECILIA RYAN 34.54028 On Wed., Sept. 30 the classesof grades 4 to 8. went on a journey to London. This trip was planned as part of the religion program.. The" stu- dents arrived at St. Peter's Cathedral. They were met by John McMahon who gave them an interesting , tour of the building. Some of the highpoints of interest were the architecture of the build- ing, the time capsule which has been placed in the corner stone of the church, the stain glass windows and the sanc- tuary, which holds—a special choir for, Bishop Serlock and PRO-LIFE PRESENTATONS — Two cheques, each worth $328, were presented at the Knights of Columbus Hall at St. Columban Thursdaxi., night. One thing the children enjoy- ed was climbing the tower and looking over London from the top , of the cathedral. After attending the noon- Mass at St. Peter's. the group went over to Victoria Park and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Next stop was St. Peter's Semin- ary. Here they were met by a number of seminarians. including Dick , Bester. hug Semard and Joe Hicknell. The stud . ents were especial- ly interested in their class- rooms.-fecreatiiinal area, lib- rary, gym and fitness room. 4-H REPORT By Marg Ryan The third meeting of McKillop IV 4-H Club was held at the home of Theresa Cronin with 11 members present. Six girls started to make top hat cheese souffle. We opened the meeting with the pledge and answered the roll cast. W-ejabetledthe-parts Of The egg. clarified chicken stock and filled:in the blanks in our books:.T,he girls seryed„ the souffle and we cleaned up the ktichen. There will be' no meeting next week because of the Thanksgiving holiday. 1(4
