BY JOANNE-BINEVIER
Marie Flynn has a talent many muctsians
wish they load. She prefers to play music
" :ar".
Her gift' was developed by the close
association she has had with music in her
life. Her father and grandfather played the
violin and taught her "there's, nothing
better than a good old jam session with a
piano and a Addle,"

up to provide a variety of music for their
audience.
NIGHTLIFE
The Ramblers play mostly for dances
and area night-life band. They feature
country. and western music and a "bit of
light rock" said Mrs. Flynn. The group was
formed in the period of 19781 79.
Harold Black, the growl's lead guitarist,
had accompanied Mrs. Flynn for several
Nears. -111-1478 Mr. Black's talented son,
Gary, joined the ! to form the Huron
Ramblers. Gary provided the vocals as well
as playing the.accordian, 12.string acoustic
guitar, piano and -the mandolin. •

• About the same tittle the Huron Strings

had been PlaYing ..together regularly at
Huronview Clinton, for fit,L yearS. The
Gelder!, Raiders senior club in Clint,
ton asked Mrs. Flynn to play in March
1979. Although she :lad played for them
before, this wow !ne first time she had to
provide all the entertainment.
She asked Lawson, Whitmore, Hillen,
McCartney and Helmer Snell to practice
with her. She had never worked with most
of thPm before, "but we really' did well"
Mrs. Flynnssid. When they played for the
club lt really boomeranged with the
senior citizens" she added.
Since that time, tlje violinists have joined
Mi. Lawson and MR1. Flynn at Huronview
-everysecond week to entertain the
residents. "The older people sure love the
violin," Mrs. Flynn said.

Last year the Huron Strings ventured
into a new area. It designed a float for the
Dungannon Centennial parade. Since that
float was a success, the group has been
entering several parades since. This
year they 'made a styrofoam cake for their

Flynn:
The two groups practise regularly before
each engagement and often the practices
extend to late hours of the night. "We-play
music mostly for the love and joy of playing
it.,,
Much of the Flynns' time is involved with
music and .Mrs. Flynn said: "I've been
fortunate with my husband and family
backing me all the way."
Police plan extra holiday patrols
Provincial Police will he
using every available patrol
unit this Labor Day weekend.
says OPP Commissioner
H.H. Graham. The, patrol
units will be marked and
unmarked cars and muter-
cycles. Many of the cars will
be equipped with radar and
Operate in areas which have a
high accident rate.
During the Labor Day
- weekend last year, 9 persons
were killed in accidents in-
(Photos by Gunby)
grvestigated by the OPP and
636 persons were injured.
According to Commission-
er Graham, the OPP is
committed to reducing the
number of people killed and
injured through effective en-
forcement patrols.
Some of the causes of
serious accidents in Ontario
are excessive speed, unsafe
lane changes and following
too close. Instructions have
gone out to the 1,90 OPP
detachments to ensure all
members of the Force operat-
ing during this period do their
utmost to check thses contra-
ventions of the law.
Motorists are reminded
that the law in Ontario
requires them to "Buckle
up" their seat beltS. It is a
proven fact that the use of
seat belts reduces deaths and
serious, injuries.
"W e will have every
radar unit out in our cars,"
says Commissioner Graham.
"The public should know that
'they'll be, used in upmarked
,cars as well as the familiar
black and white cruisers."
The OPP urge drivers to be
patient in the heavy traffic
expected during this sum-
mer's last long weekend.
With a little more cau tion
and,couttesy, the number of
traffic deaths and accidents
will be reduced.
