ABSORBING THEATRE — Many shows can
capture attention, but the skit, "Joey the
Clown" performed, by the Centre Ring Theatre.
Company held these children spellbound. The
company is from Owen Sound and performed
for about 50 children last Wednesday. The skit,
about a circus, involved actors under the age of
18. (Photo by Rimmdr)

After missing last weelA
edition due to the holiday
weekend there is lots of ball
action to report. The Squirt
Teams have all shown vast
improvement since the sea-
son started with Expos con-
tinuing-to-lead-the-way witha
victory over the Mets and an
unusual tie with the second
place- Bluejays in two very
close games.: The Dodgers
split over theirlast two games
edging the Tigers on the 28th
and losing to the Bluejays
last Monday. •The Orioles
remain winless but are play-
ing better ball as they lost
close ones to the Mets and the
Tigers.
In Peewee action the girls
seem to be peaking just in
.time for the season finale on
August 22nd as they came up
with back' to back victories-
beating Goderich and then
Goderich Township, The boys
are having ale ass easy t late
as the Allen's "A"s came up
flat losing to the Goderich
team while Radfords "Jays"
also lost to the hard playing
Colborne Township team.
Last week saw a Jays vs A's
game scheduled but due to
holidays both teams were
short and theiemaining boys.
augmented by some of the
older Squirts. played a game
amongst themselves with
Keith Allen's team coming up
with the higher! score.
The Bantam boys continue
to have their ups and downs
as they were trounced by
Stanley Township in a game
in Varna but turned it around
the next week Scoring an easy
victory over their, Auburn
counterparts.

People mend hours and a
lot ofiteney at fairs, carni,
vale d things like this. All
s,untmer we could spend
money on games, rides and
midways. A lot of people do.
For example, this yeaf
everyone is trying out Can-
ada's Wonderland. Although
I haven't been there yet, I've
heard a lot about it. The
advertisements alone are
enough to'-make you want-to
see what allot the mystery is
about. From what I've heard,
Wonderland is a great place
to go if you like roller
coasters. A' day pass permits
you to 'go on as many rides,
as many times as you like
snack bars and other amuse-
ments as well., Kids might
like to see -Hanna-Barbara
land where all of their Satur-
day morning, cartoon friends
meet.
There are dancing acts and
other entertainments, castles
and baildings. On a hot day it
is the best place to be.
If.you really feel wealthy.
you could stay in Toronto for
some of the older attractions.
For instance, Ontario Place is
a lotof fun to see. It has a big
water slide you can slide
down on foam mats. There is
a children!s. village that
covers two acres of super fun
And .adyeneie for children
from 4 to 14 years-old. As
well 'as a maze, hanging
ladder over a pool of water.
and. slides there is a moon
walk for kids to jump in.
Besides these things.
there is an out-door relict
rink, a band shell, pedal
boats, miniature golf, rest-
aurant and souvenir shops.
Ontario Place is 'a great
place.
Just a walk away from
Ontario Place is the CNE
(Canadian National Exhibit-
ion). If you want fun this is
the place to' ind it.. There's a
midway with all'sorts of rides
and games. a pinball arcade.
bingo ' tents, , international
buildings, the automotive
building. animals: the CNE
beaut% pageant. The grand
stand features popular sing-
ers and groups each night.
RideS' are rides. They're
fun, they're exciting, they're
horrifying and they cost a lot
of money. Moit people spend
more , than half of their time
at the' CNE on the midway
And, need I say, half of their
money.
Pinball machines are also
a fun way,,to watch your
money fly-away. Blotter&
games ,are becorning , more
popular now than pinball
machines. I have friends who
can spend over ten dollars
trying to outsmart a comput-
er at 25c a try. , At the
Seaforth Carnival this year
there were .pinball-machines
and electronic games in one
corner of the arena. The most
popular of these was the
Puckman. It was a game
where you had a Futkman
who tried to eat, points but
couldn't get eaten. It's hard
to explain. But it proved to
be a very nerve-wracking
game. One guy I know spent
a lot of time over at this game
and learned how to beat the
computer. he would get •right
into the game and work up a
sweat!
Getting back on the sub-
ject of Toronto, there is one
place left you can visit while
in Toronto. A few years ago

we went to, Toronto Island.
Full of rides, games and
water fun, the Island is a
great place to go for a day
Toronto is not ,that far
away and a great place to
spend a holiday. Sure it costs
a lot for a hotel and to go to
all of these places but it costs
a lot of money to do anything
these days.

August 28th.
Bell
team travelled to Colborne
and came away on the short,
end of the searesheet and
then saw their game against
Goderich Township cancelled
astheir opposition once again
were no show. The evening
-was -not art—entire loss as -
Coach Brad Kennedy took the
opportunity to stage an exhib-
ition game of sorts. The girls
tend a couple of somewhat
overage midgets (Red "Fire-
ball?' Allen, "Boomer Brom-
ley and Howard "Hot Shot"
Cartwright) showed some of
the game's finer points to an
alistar Bantam-Midget.boys
team. There are various re-
ports as to the score bet .
whatever the final was the
boys had to concede. They
certainly have never played a
giime quite like it.
The-Midget are eta° tuning
up for their season-ending
tournament on August 29th
and doing it in fine style with
victories over the past two'
Weeks. The game against
Vanastra showed both teams
could play ball as *nett took
the win.
In. Sits Pitch action the
Blazers split over the past two
weeks, The Marauders are
stifflooking for games while
Allboro posted back to •back
victories over Holmesville
while tuning up for the Blyth
Tournament.
In the tournament the
Ailboro team played three of
their better games. On Thurs-
day evening in their opener
Winthrop Warriors knew
they were in a ballgame as
they edged Ailboro by a 10-6
score. This put Ailboro in the
B Division where on Saturday
Howard Cartwright faced, the
minimum 15 batters as ..AII-
boro posted an 11-0 5 inning
. victory over VVestfield. Sun-
day, saw the Aliboro team go
into the seventh inning with a
five run lead •and come out
with a four run los' as
Howson's erupted in a game
ending rally. The game while
being a tough one to. lose
showed a remarkable im-
provement on the previous
trouncing of 23 to .4 Howson's
had scored earlier in the
season.
The Moms and Dads seem
to be losing interest 'as there
have not been enough out to
organize teams the past 'two
weeks. If you'd like to play
come out tomorrow night-we
can promise only one thing -
fun.
the " Ladies teams are
into playoffs and both teams
will need strong effort 's to
win as Summerhill takes on
Auburn and Londesboro
meets Brussels.
