the Royal Canadian Air

carpet outlet was addend to the
store, and it now features
appliances and modern furni-
ture as well.
Although the Box name has
been associated with the
business since 18 16. the
groundwork, was laid 10 years
in when John
Broadftiot opened a plan-
ing Eatu on the northeast

ed. and was operated by
William T. Box.
In the early 1900's. Herbert
C. and Ernest Box took over
the entire business from their
father. The undertaking ser-
vice was then taken over by
Ernest. and carried on for a
number of y .ears. With Ern-
est was his scat Richard. who
bnilt the funeral chapel in
1951 on High Street. The
chapel was sold to M. L.
Watts earlier this year. .
The lot where the furniture
store is now located was the

and Margaret Stark. Follow-
'Mg the great fire in 1876. the
site was used for a new
building erected by William
M. Robertson.
Over the three generations
of involvement in Seafoth's
businPss history. The Box
fancily his also been active in
the community.
Herbert and
Ernest played in the band and
Ernest and his son Richard
were aetive as members of
the P.U.C. for many years.
