great deal. The program informed admini-

Mr. MacKenzie spent a year in intern-
ship before he wrote his thesis . He said;
that Hospital administration has a wide
variety of subjects on which a thesis could
be written.
The job of hospital administrator is very
demanding, said Mr. MacKenzie, for one
must deal with the board of governors, the
medical staff, the patients. and the
community. He is also required to keep in
contact with the provincial and national
hospital associations.
The board of governors is Mr.
MacKenzie's immediate superviser and he
mustimplement any decisions made by it
and must interpret the board's policies to
the medical staff and hospital personnel.
He is responsible for pt riodicreports to the
board, and a yearly budget and also acts as "
a liaison between the medical staff and the
board of governors in matters, of profes-
sional care.

Mr. Phillips also said Strat-

is better than London's of 10.
Mayor Sinnamon commented
"if the system is working, I
don't think you 'thange it."
The PUC • was notified of
two meetings in the near

Mr. Phillips drafted a let-
ter to MPP Jack Riddell
supporting the second trans-
mission line which Ontario
Hydro plans to build. The
letter states the commission
supports a suitable and ade-
quate line, but also states
this is an agricultural ,area.
Mr. Pullman suggested some
wording in the-Tetter is too
strong. saying they would
support the line "in every
possible way."
The commis-

letter as drafted.
The PUC has been asked
to hook up the new handi-

Recently. PUC equipment
was chided by K-Trek dia-
lectic testing. Three trucks
were tested and recommen-
dations were made concern-
ing the bucket truck. Mr.
Phillips said the day the
vehicle was tested it was wet
and the tests were poor. It
was suggested• that a new
liner,be bought for $200.
Pullman said '''when you
have that much invested
anyway. may as well keep
the equipment in shape."
The liner will protecribe
bucket, so the commission
agreed to invest in it.
Mr. Phillips had investiga-
ted various ways of contact-
ing men who are on call on
evenings and weekends. He
checked with a company in
Woodstoek which supplies
beepers and an answering
service, and asked Other
PUC s what they used'. Sea-
forth hospital also was
checked, and for $50 a month
the PUC could have use of
the hospital beepers. The
hospital ,can answer emer-
gency phone calls. To get the
PUC phone connected to the
hospital, the installation
would cost $55 plus a month-
ly charge of $5.40, The
commission agreed this
would be the best way of
contacting people on ditty.

With my theme song blaring in the
I2ckground, I'm typing this ditty to you.
What is my theme song? It's a tune sung
by Billy Joel and called You May Be Right.
The part I've adopted , as my motto goes
like this: "You may be right; I may- be
crazy: But it just may be a lunatic you're
looking for."
Surely by now, dearest readers, you
know when to take me seriously and when
not to. Sometimes we all take ourselves too
seriously, and laughter is needed to relieve
the tension.
For example, this morning I walked into
the office and turned on the fan to move the
heavy hot air. Instead I sent sheets of
typewriter paper, carbon paper, notes,
letters and envelopes flying around the
mom.
My first impulse was to kick something,
which could have resulted in, a broken toe.
Laughter, although forced, seethed like a
safer choice.
There is one misconception I mutt clear
up with you. Those of you who read this
column regularly, have probtibly noticed
occasionally take pot shots at my brother-
in-law - safe in the knowledge I can keep
the paper out of his sight.
A few weeks ago someone asked me if he

(Just kidding, folks!)
To fill space every week, columnists
need someone to poke fun at. Yhe most
obvious victims, of course are the writers.
But we need variety. Some writers use
their spouse, their kids or even their
grandchildren. What better person for me
to choose than someone I've traded quips
with for twenty years!
We don't take exception to each other's
remarks. We jUst consider where they
came from. We understand each 'other,
sort of, and we've had some good laughs.
Once in a while we agree or at least
reach a compromise. About three years
ago, for instance, he asked me one day to
-move the pile of junk from"-his-driveway. I
said I couldn't drive hig car. He said that
wasn't the pile of junk he meant. ,
Ire the' end, we decided we were both
driving piles of junk but his was more
expensive.
If the truth were known, I've come to
think of him as a brother and to depend on
him as many, sisters depend on big
brothers for support and advice.
But, if you think I'd admit that to him,
guess again. I'm more likely to tell him I
don't listen to hina half the time and ignore
him the rest

For such a demanding job. certain skills
are necessary, Human relations skills are
obviously very important because -"you are
dealing with such a wide variety of people"
noted Mr. MacKenzie. Also important to
him are his financial and management
skills, since he is operating a large
organization. Many of these skills are
"time-acquired" skills. said Mr. MacKen-
zie. Compassion is also a must in the health
care field.
"The job is very time-consuming," said
Mr. MacKenzie, "time is not your own
since there are so many meetings to
attend. There is also a great deal of
pressure. but you just deal with it at the
time it arises. I enjoy what I'm doing. so I
just accept the fact that it comes with the
job."
He finds that the problems which
challenge him also stimulate his thinking.
