The job of hospital administrator is very demanding, said Mr. MacKenzie, for one must deal with the board of governors, the medical staff, the patients. and the community. He is also required to keep in contact with the provincial and national hospital associations. The board of governors is Mr. MacKenzie's immediate superviser and he mustimplement any decisions made by it and must interpret the board's policies to the medical staff and hospital personnel. The PUC • was notified of two meetings in the near future in this area. A planned stage study of alternative t transmission systems for Ontario Hydro routes and evaluation will be held in Goderich, and every PUC is to be represented. Commiss- ioners Jim- Sills and Gord Pullman will attend from Seaforth. The Ontario Muni- cipal, Electric Association. District 6 wilt be holding its annual meetings in Mitchell Sept. 16. The resolutions committee will be handling issues such as the difference between urban and rural rates, the off-oil program. time of day metering and postal service. Mr. Sills commented time-of-day Metering would be an expen- sive _project- This_ system would encourage companies. especially large factories, to operate at night by offering cheaper rates. ' Useful information con- cerning the government's Off-oil program was delivered to the PUC. The PUC is expected to assist in imple- menting the program and will be paid $18 for each of first 3,000 applications cone, pleted. The letter states the commission supports a suitable and ade- quate line, but also states this is an agricultural ,area. Mr. Pullman suggested some wording in the-Tetter is too strong. saying they would support the line "in every possible way." The commis- sion decided to send the letter as drafted. The PUC has been asked to hook up the new handi- capped Water fountain at Victoria Park. The commis- sion agreed to connect it to existing water service, Recently. PUC equipment was chided by K-Trek dia- lectic testing. Three trucks were tested and recommen- dations were made concern- ing the bucket truck. Mr. Phillips said the day the vehicle was tested it was wet and the tests were poor. It was suggested• that a new liner,be bought for $200. Pullman said '''when you have that much invested anyway. may as well keep the equipment in shape." The liner will protecribe bucket, so the commission agreed to invest in it. Mr. Phillips had investiga- ted various ways of contact- ing men who are on call on evenings and weekends. He checked with a company in Woodstoek which supplies beepers and an answering service, and asked Other PUC s what they used'. Sea- forth hospital also was checked, and for $50 a month the PUC could have use of the hospital beepers. The hospital ,can answer emer- gency phone calls. To get the PUC phone connected to the hospital, the installation would cost $55 plus a month- ly charge of $5.40, The commission agreed this would be the best way of contacting people on ditty. Emergency callouts for after hours r-an be ,made to TUC's With my theme song blaring in the I2ckground, I'm typing this ditty to you. What is my theme song? It's a tune sung by Billy Joel and called You May Be Right. The part I've adopted , as my motto goes like this: "You may be right; I may- be crazy: But it just may be a lunatic you're looking for." Surely by now, dearest readers, you know when to take me seriously and when not to. Sometimes we all take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is needed to relieve the tension. For example, this morning I walked into the office and turned on the fan to move the heavy hot air. Instead I sent sheets of typewriter paper, carbon paper, notes, letters and envelopes flying around the mom. My first impulse was to kick something, which could have resulted in, a broken toe. Laughter, although forced, seethed like a safer choice. There is one misconception I mutt clear up with you. Those of you who read this column regularly, have probtibly noticed occasionally take pot shots at my brother- in-law - safe in the knowledge I can keep the paper out of his sight. Earlier this year, rA MacKenzie attend, course., he's not that bad. He's worse! (Just kidding, folks!) To fill space every week, columnists need someone to poke fun at. Yhe most obvious victims, of course are the writers. But we need variety. Some writers use their spouse, their kids or even their grandchildren. What better person for me to choose than someone I've traded quips with for twenty years! We don't take exception to each other's remarks. We jUst consider where they came from. We understand each 'other, sort of, and we've had some good laughs. Once in a while we agree or at least reach a compromise. About three years ago, for instance, he asked me one day to -move the pile of junk from"-his-driveway. I said I couldn't drive hig car. He said that wasn't the pile of junk he meant. , Ire the' end, we decided we were both driving piles of junk but his was more expensive. If the truth were known, I've come to think of him as a brother and to depend on him as many, sisters depend on big brothers for support and advice. But, if you think I'd admit that to him, guess again. I'm more likely to tell him I don't listen to hina half the time and ignore him the rest ees' conduct, working hours and rates of pay- Since public ,relations, is important to a communityhospoital, Mr. MacKenzie is responsible for establishing contacts with tool erganix. ittiens.. the hospital auxiliary. visitors,..Overnmegt agencies othettiti4pi- 44. health and-social ageneies,-Orgarrized used ne.; and the trees taus ill. e must Parti014:0 in . the netivitig4: o 100.. fqdc41,1Aqiitalra0ocjattotts to -10o; aware '. of new 40yeltirnentsi 0000.4-00s, r • v405 tat ittOO: Outc4o;4, lie must ''jr0 ..tiikription • ..reA4si int 40, - . adrniniStratiYe 'Management 011401000n. ineholing hildget. and -finance, personnel, purchase, . and; supply.. building • and grounds, maintenance ' and housekeeping and 'integrates these services with the clinical phases of patient care, - Overriding all his duties, is the responsibility to all' patients to provide the highest professional level of health care.
