After serving a charge
near Ottawa and One at
Hensalt Rev. YOutig came to
the OAC as its first full-Iiime
pastor
He really enjoyed work-
ing there." Mrs. Young
remembers.
A happy man known t
his hearts laugh. Res Young
counselled many of the col-
lege's students. helping
them oser any problem they
brought to his office in
discuss.
He handled more festive
duties too, officiating at the
marriages of many of his
students.
While chaplain, he insti-
tuted and held a regular
Sunday church service at the
college. open to students of
every faith.
Rev. Young made other
contributions to the ministry,
serving as pastor for 10 years
at St. Andrew's Presbyterian
Church in Fergus. He also
instituted a school for rural
clergy in 1954.
Knox College recognized
their indefatigable grad-
uate's accomplishments in
1962; awarding him an ,hon-
orary degree.
A stint in the army during
the Second World War was
about the only thing that
interrupted Rev. Young's
devotion to his job and to the
young people he served.
During the last three years
he spent with the college, it
became incorporated to in-
dude the University Of
,Guelph.
A portrait of Rev, Young
hangs in the college to honor
his service to the OAC.
During his life; he branch.
ed out into., other areas of
communication, writing a
popular column for the
Farmers Advocate magazine
for 15 years.
He worked at. a Junior
Farmers camp near Barrie
for IS years and one year
even accompanied a group of
Junior Farmers on a 10-smelt
trip overseas,
.And during the many
years ' Rev. Young worked
with young people at the
OAC in Junior Oarmers
elubs, he and his wife foamed
the time to raise five daugh-
ters of their own.
He was a popular choir:leis
a fall fair and poultry judge
in-many eomMunities,..„8vel
travelling to Bermuda owe

business," Mrs. Young re.

Rev. Young also used his
spare time to paint with oils,
He captured many local
scene's on canvas, including a
view of the DaVid Street
bridge over the Elora Gorge.
