If you happened to be
talking to any of the St.
Columban players in the past
week and they seemed to be
gloating a little: they have
every right to as they defeat-
ed' the top team. in First
Division by a score of 2.0.
The ,,game was the first
round of the League Cup
which includes all. 3 divi-
sions. St. Columban was a
little tense at the start of the
game. but as the first half
wore on they began to loosen
up. They did an excellent job
of covering the Curinga play-
St, Coltunban-got back on
the winning track as they
completely out-played West
Lorne with a 3-0 victory. The
team got on the scoreboard
quickly with a goal at the
2-minute mark on a well
placed shot in the corner by
Alex Harrett. Alex turned
the trick again in the first
half as he knocked in a
rebound off the goal tender.
Ernie Szabo finished off the
scoring for St. Columban
when he drilled a shot into
the corner. leaving the goalie
no chance. St. Columban
could easily have won by a
cis and did not allow any
wide open scoring chances in
their own end.
The second half consisted
of the best 45 min. of soccer
action St. Columban has put
together this year. They to-
tally out-hustled Curinga and
at the 20 min. mark Alei
Harrett deflected a shot into
the top corner of the nu t for
a 1.0 lead. Curinga tried to
press for the tying goal but
were thwarted on every occa-
ssion by the boys in green.
Then with 5 min. left, to nlav
Alex Harrett put a perfect
much greater margin had it'
not been for some superb
goal tending by 'West Lorne't
Notes: Richard Verberne
and Brett Finlayson both
played a strong game. Alex
Harrett is St. Columban's
leading scorer with 7 goals to
his credit.

cross to Rick Ryan who
headed the ball past, a
stunned Curinga goaltender
for a 2-0 lead and the icing on

be made of Richard Verberne
