CANADA.... Starting in Newfoundland, at noon sharp local time, July ist,
Canadians from Coast-to-Coast will be singing our national anthem 'to celebrate
Canada's 114th Birthddiy. As clocks strike twelve noon bells will ring television and
radio stations will broadcast the anthem, and Canadians, whereVer they are,

Canada's national anthem on

July l, 1980, 100 years after it
was r sung on June 24,
1880.The music was composed by
Calixatavallee, a well-known
composer; French lyric's to
accompany .the music were
written by Sir Adolphe-Basile
Routhier. The song gained stead-
ily in popularity. Many English -
versions have appeared over the
years. The version on which the -
offiVal .English lyric's are baied
vas written in 1908 by Mr, Justice
!Oben Stanley Weir. The' official
English version includes changes
recommended in 1968 by a
Special Toint Committee of the
Senate and House of Commons.
The French lyrics remain
unaltered.
