Vin- cent Young of Goderichl chairman of the teacher- board salary negotiating committee for the board re- ported the teachers have not ratified their salary agree- ment for 1981,82. The. teach- ers—met last Thursday, but. did not approve it. Trustee Young said he did not know the reason for the teachers not settling it: ,He said his committee will be meeting with the teacher's committee later this week to try and reach a settlement.• A week ago the board ratified the agreement. The board appointed Jim Steffier as principal at St. Mary's school, }lesson. effective Sept. 1. Victoria Zyltik, music 'teacher at St. Joseph's School, Kings- bridge, resigned, effective August 31, She will go to Yellowknife With her hus- band who has accepted a position there as a principal. The board accepted the resignation of Sister Theresa Mader as principal of St. ,James School, Seaforth. effective August 31 and the board Will hire a replace- ment. Trustee Lorraine Dever- eaux of Seaforth was named to the ad hoc principal Stars are coming back. According to TV scuttle-butt, we'll be seeing some old familiar faces in new roles on our television screens this year. Lorne Greene has come a' long way from his days on Canadian radio. He traded in his horse and three middle-aged sons on an American TV ranch for black attire and a home in another universe. ' Lately he'd gone back to western clothes to sell dog food, but soon he'll be donning a fireman's helmet and driving a fire engine. Lee Majors will appear in a new series called Fall Guy, in which he will play a stuntman without' the benefit of $6,000,000 components. Mike Connors will move from private eye Mannix to an FBI agent. Remember Robert Stack from the Un- touchables and the girl from Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman? They are both nraking comebacks in new roles. Suzanne Somers and Chrissie Snow have completed their turbulent break with the ABC network and Three's Company. Chris- sie will move to CBS next January. Her name will change to Suzy. but her character- istics will stay the same. Erma Bombeck. columnist and author, has STEPHEN B. Mrs. Coombs' brother, Ronald Jones, of Co chester, England, came to the Coombs' home on Satur- ay afternoon. "It was a real, surprise; It made our dayt" sayd' Mrs. Coombs in an interview on Monday. 'I thought both he and his wife were coming in September, so I never expected him now." Mrs. Coombs estimated that 240 people were at the reception at the Legion Hall. Other unexpected guest were friends from Picton and Montreal. "It was just lovely!" added Mrs. Coombs. Mr. Eckert noted that the Kindergarten class at St. Mary's School in Goderich has increased to 31.pupils beginning in September and will be divided into two elasseS40,he tap tt GM alter". nate days ly present teacher, Mary Anne ,JohOstOn; The stars are back appeared cln. several talk shows and is responsible for a new showed called Maggie. Some stars have already ,made changes. Barbara Eden jumped from a Jeanie in a bottle 'to a lady that wowed the Harper Valley PTA. The mayor of the town is good old "lonesome George" Gobel, who takes time away from Hollywood Stars game show to play a rather tipsy town official. One of the most remarkable conversions is that of Larry Hagman. He went from the kindly and likeable master of Jeanie to the most unlikeable J. R. in Dallas. Sometimes it is hard for the viewing public to accept old faces in new roles. We might still expect Michael Landon and Pernell Roberts to call Lorne Green "Pa," even though Michael Landon has been a "pa" himself for several years and Pernell Roberts is a successful modern doctor. We may be astonished if Lee Majors can't leap from the ground to the roof of a three-storey buildings. We may insist on calling Suzy by the name of Chrissie. It's a credit to an actor's ability if he can make us forget the old character and accept the new one. Nobody has done it better than mean old J.R.
