THE IrtUROAI EXPOSITOR, JUNE
This itn't a sport's column, actually. I've begged off that
one and have received a momentary stay of execution,
Some day down the road, though. that sports column ball
will land in my court again, served up as an ace, and I just
won't be able to make a return. It'll be mine again. •
But those of you who read it regularly (and I mean both
of you,. Fred and Leroy. Listen up). ' You must, in fact. •

• they'.re the closest ballteam The "good" in this ease
is relative;.because the Tigers are being compared to
'Blue Jays, who seem to have assumed asp their role the'
desire to make any club, other than themselves look just
fine.. A noble sacrifice, but one which has seemingly gone
unnoticed by their frustrated fans.
Those poor Toronto sports fans. If they would only
remember the saying. "Charity begins at home," then
give their teams a break. They should he proud their city
produces teams who so. willingly give of themselves to
make others looks good, Who need a Stanley Cup, a Grey
Cup, or a baseball pennant? °
SUDS N'BALL
, Back to.Detroit There's another reason Tiger Staditunis
a betters pot to see a ball game than Exhibition Stadium.
Even, Frank Drea knows the answer to that one. Suds and
baseball. It's written in stone somewhere, but since when
have things carved in stone held any meaning? Right
Frank, hic.
Frankly. if I could figure out a way to get to Chavez Rav-
ine as cheaply and easily. I wouldn't be bothered with
either of our neighboring major league teams. After all.
the Dodgers have proven that they are consistently the
• best team in baseball. so Los Angeles. truly. is the place
real baseballs fans want to go.
But Detroit is the best of the worst, and off we went a
couple weekends ago to see the Bengals take on Earl's
birds from Baltimore. Second to the Dodgers. the Orioles
are the best ball club around. Smooth. clean, basic.
consistent, they're always a team to be reckoned with.
(The Yankees were up there once. too. but an Ohio
shipbuilder with an axe seems intent on carving out a path
through the woods for his club, and deeper into the bush).
We had interesting seats for this one, down the first
base line two rows behind the dugout for Oriole relievers.
It was • a unique- spot. and it gives yoti a different
perspective on the game and its characters.
Right in front of us'were the teams' right fielders.
