In many places .one had to drive front one side to the other to miss these deep dugouts. So the scarifier levelled all these places and then we put on the blade to carry the loose gravel into these holes and w e had good roads. My legs wouldn't stand for this totigh, rideitathis k nd of implement. as one had to stand up to manipulate .the levers and lifts, so in 192S I bought a truck to haul milk it' Ethel Cheese . Factory. In 1936, 1 helped Martin MacDonald buildl,a few culvertis. for Grey town- ship. So naturally the reeve and deputy and clerk. who were not in favor .44 this new assessment. in , 1951 hired a new assessor. So 'o Frank Harrison took the job . and one year was enough for him. He brought the books back to the clerk's office and said, -no more, rat done with this, no more assessing for me." This was the time the 'clerk Fear took sick and was hospitalized, so Mrs. Cardiff, who had been work- ing in the office from, time to time, was installed as clerk. Mr. Fear got quite a bit better and the council gave hint the assessor job from 1952. So in 1953 a new council was elected for Grey town- ship and I was again chosen as assessor and did the job until 1968, when D' Arcy McKeough' took over.
