The Tun of being a child! At
this age. kids are cute. Thee
are learning to perfect an
adorable smile that will win
them a cookie. try ..to creep
around the house. no and
down the stairs and they love
to try to act like stunt men as
they escape from their crib.
All of. this 'time, mothers
smile and tell everyone how
nicely Billy sleeps such long
hours!
Once a child is about a
year old, he starts to be 'a lot
of fun for any mother. I
notice this when mothers
bring their children into the
grocery store. Wheh they,
walk in, they are put safely
into the cart and begin their
shopping spree. Sitting"down •
quietly looking at all of the
people only lasts a while and•
soon enough they. are down
on the floor and running
around. They first see a kind
of cereal that they like and
then they see the cookies.
This is always fun because
• the mother finds a half a
• dozen kinds of cookies in her
, cart that she knows '• she,
did not put there. Then the
be,worseT - -1
little child's dream is to run
down a neatly stacked - soup
aisle with a stick and knock,
- every can off of the shelf!

Grocery stores aren't the
only type of business chil-
dren love to go into. -tns was
brought to my attention at
Easter when my relatives got
together and remembered
some of the cuter things w
used to do- to cause, our
mothers trouble. Department
stores,are even more fun to
go to than amusement parks.
Once let loose in a depart-
ment store, a chihi„can-go..
• wild ands po one will know
whose child it is so there will
be no problem.
In a cloth tog store
mothers seem in lose the
time and spend hours "just
browsing for a . minute."
Meanwhile. what do their
darling children do? Why,
they're, just perfect. I, can
remember all of the tricks.
We used to run up and d9wn
the wall behind the rows of
dresses, hide in the middle of
displayS,,,and whisper peeka-
boo to every lady that would
pick out the wrong hanger.
[thy poop "tnot>lier. ThCn when
a child is let it' • a
furniture store, it is heaven!
They find a nice bouncy bed
to jump . on, a big table tov
hide under .and • swings to
play bn. And then there's the
escalators. 'UP and down the
escalators we'd go: What
fun! As a child passes each
floor on the escalator, hest
might grab the wig off of one
--mannequin-and thy, dr
another, 'And' the mother
smiles nicely, and takes, the
child out of the store.
• The pleasures of bring of
'mother. must be countless.
