The 2nd Annual Nielsen
Held Classic proved a sue-
Saturday in terms of
both ' the weather and the
competitors.
According to Terry John-
ston, the convenor for the
event, there were 89 compe-
titors from 25' schools pre-
sent, improving 'ton last
year's attendance of S4 corn-

petitors from 18 schools. Mr.

the comments of both coach-

pleased with the facilities.
Ivan Nielsen. father of the
local Nielsen athletes. who
has helped to build the
facilities, said "You can't,
beat the facilities. It's going
like cloCkwork. every event. I
think he's (Terry Johnston)
got everything' planned to a
'T. We would like to see
more, athletes up here for it
However, there were a few
negative comments about the
facilities. Steve Gibb, winner
d the boys' high, jump,
commented that "The only
downer about the melt is
that the facilities (esp. the
high jump) aren't' What they
Could- be,' but what can you
expect?" He was refe rring
to the relative newness of. the
Classic as a meet.
Martha Hart, a javelin
• participant, expressed - her
diSappointment, "This run=
way....there's a' lot of rocks
in it. Some people,4 would-
n't bother. But 'a. new -run-
way,I don't -know. how 'much
it would cost, if they can
afford it."
Mr. Johnston reports that
plans have been made to
improve the facilities, but
they are still short of funds.
