The tri 's inside story
BY PATRICIA
"We love you Seaforth, oh
yes we dd..." This was a
song sung over and over
again by the girls of the
SDHS band on the way down
and back from Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina. There was
fore wezgot to parts of the
tummy with mountains and
other sights such as Wash-
ington. 'During stops for
snacks and meals we already
notices the Southern accent
and phraseS„ such as "Y'all
come back." and Y'all want
01 girls and parents, a good
hot breakfast %vas necessary.
Well. we were on our way
again and within about eight
hours,,w c would be in Myrtle
Beach.
We stopped'-at a tourist
attraction called South of the
Kids, teens,

was had by all as • we
captured the second place
trophy in the Can-AM Parade
in Myrtle Beach.
We loaded onto the two
buses ready to take oftto our
destination, the land of the
sun, no snow and good
looking guys. It didn't' look
too promising as we travelled
for about a day and a '-half
before we were convinced
that. there was no snow and
the temperatures were above.
15 degrees. After saying
goodbye to our, families and
friends herein ,Seafertft. we
sat back and started eating
before we even got to Dublin.
The ,cards were brought out .
and we were ready for a king
trip ahead of us. It didn't
take too, long before we were
over the border and 'getting
hungry again.
Naturally it was dark be,

travelling: there would "be
the occasional "Happy

down gtfite a' bit. Girls

chance to btly souvenirs and
take our time eating and
wandering, around. We • had
only -a few hours left on the
bus. Shortly we would be
unpacking in our hotel rooms
and swimming in a heated
pool.
Finally we,leatric into a

Full of tourist attractions and
Ontario license plates It
seemed like we were only :a
few hours away -from home.
Looking at altof the hotels.
and tourist attractions. we
could tell that the weather
was not 30 degrees as we had
hoped. Reading the, sign at
the front dotty motel, we felt
really welcome..The long trip
was worth it. The sign at .the

had an indoor pool. an

of the ocean right outside our
motel.
HEMYFOR-THE FOUL
We were assigned rooms,
unpacked and headed for the
pool. We were allowed to
discover. restaurants... sou-
venir shops and hotels along
the beac-h that night. Unfor-
tunatelf the weather, Wasn't
going to cooperate and it
!stormed the first night in
Myrtle Beach., Neighbouring
hotels had guests with . their
car windows blown in. pool
furniture was put in the.
swimming pools so that they
wouldo't blow away in 'the
wind. Of course since we
aren't,. used to that kind of
wind storm we were presum-
ing it was some kind of
hurricane but we learned
later that it was just a mild
storm for Myrtle Beach na-
tives. The storm had us
settled down' in time for our
early curfew that night. '
BRIGHT, EARLY
The next morning we were
up bright and early for a ten
o'clock practice in the motel
parking lot. • We had an
audience of people,staying at
'neighbouring hotels 'watch-
. ing our „routine.. After pract-
ice, we were allowed a
chalice to shop a the Myrtle
Beach Square. the mall
where we did our routine
Tuesday night. We were
ready for the parade by 3:00
so that we could march at..
4:00.
It was still cold and not the
best ' marching conditions
ever but it must hate paid off
because we placed second in
that parade. The Burlington
Teen Band who placed first
almost didn't make it to the
parade as • they arrived in
Myrtle Beach ten minutes
after the parade started! Oh
well, a .second place trophy
was nice tkbring back to
Seaforth.
On Monday' night several
girls went to movies nearbY.--
Nine to Five w as a popular
movie.
Tuesday morning we had
another practice at 10:00.
The weather seemed to be -
clearing up and 'the sun was
`shining, Remember the sun?
It's that bright thing in the
sky tha gives people tans
when t ey "go down south. -
Most „ 'iris spent 'the re- •
mind r of the morning and
most of the afternoon trying
to get a tan and shqppng at
the nearby Kinarit -and sou- "
venir • shops.
PERFORMING
At 6:00 on Tuesday night
We boarded the bus in our
uniforms and headed for the
Myrtle Beach Square. where
we performed a half an hour
later. The kids from the.
Burlington teen Band joined ,
in with our chaperones and
cheered'. us on. It sure
helped. The space that they
gave us was limite-d to' about
half of our usual amount of
room but our routine worked
out fine.
On Wednesday nothing in
particular was planned for
the day. We spent most of
our time out on the beach
trying to get. a tatilo bring
home with us. Sonic were
lucky enough to even, burn
whilepthers remained just as
pale as they were when they
left Seaforth. To return the
favor that the Burlington
band did for us by cheering
to on the night before. some
. of the girls went to see them
perform an -Wed!esday.
There were no doubts in our
minds why they got first
place after' hearing their ,
music. Others went to the .
amusement park and then
returned to the motel. Timis-
day afternoon some girls, .
went miniature golfing just '
down the street, On Thurs-
day night- We--. went roller
skating at Sports world again.
It was a lot of fun a the dik
jockey dedicated one of the
songs to our band. •
Friday was not quite as
nice as it was our last full 'day
in. Myrtle Beach. A busload
of•girls went back to the mall
to finish up some Shopping.
for souvenirs etc. We were
asked to have another
ticc on Friday morning in fidl
dress (uniforms) so`that they
could present the trophy and
plaque to us: We were up
bright and early once more at,
9:.I0 for this.
On Friday night. our last
night. many girls went from
mom to room partying and
recalling the week's activit-
ies. The week WAS' over and
the next morning we would
be loading onto the bus for a
long ride home to Seaforth,
At I1 o'clock most girls
were ready to leave for
home. 'Things were loaded '
onto the bus by about I0:30.
For sonic reason the luggage
was somewhat heavier and
there were more things going
back then what we had
packed going down, The
