ANOTHER JUNIOR
AGRICULTURAUST
' PROGRAMME .
This year, 'the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, and
Food will once again be
sponsoring, the Junior Agri-
culturalist Programme. dur-
ing the summer of 1981. The
programme is designed to
provide a practical learning
experience for young people
from non-farm homes who
hatre-ii 'Serious interest in
agriculture, and", who have
had no experience workit(g
on afarm.
As a Junior Agricultura- "
list; a person will be placed
on a selected commercial
farm, where he/she will' per-
form regular activities rela-
tive to'that farm operation. In ••
addition, an • appreciation of
rural life through living with -
a farm family, and through
participating in the local 4-H
and Junior Farmer pro-
grammes and in other rural
activities' will be developed.
The prospective Junior.
Agriculturalists will-be either
boys or girls 16 or 17 years of
age and must-be-in -good-
physical -and mental-.condi-
tion indorder to withstand the
vigorous physical effort. Sel-
ection will be based in part
on their reasons for being
interested irragriculttire. and
their plans for further edu-
cation and a. career, ,
As a successful project in
Huron Cputtty daring the
summer of 1980.. the Ontario
""Ministry of Agriculture and
Food again offering the
"Agricrew Project" to far-
mers during the summer of
1981. This programme has
been designed te provide a
practical work experience for
young people.,
As a part of an "Agricrew'
team members will be placed'
on farms and asked to do jobs
that may not have been done
because of the volume of
regular farne\work. ,In
don, crew members could, be
hired to assist with harvest
during seasonal- periods. An
Agricrew could also be hired
to help Agricultural soCieties
prepare their' grounds for
Farad community fairs.,
Each Agricrew will work as
a team (3 crew members and
a foreman) and will not be
subdivided. Agricrew mem-
bers must be oyes 15 yearS of
age as of May 1st, 1981 and
will be selected on their
willingness to perform agri-•
cultural manual labour. Em-
ployers are to be engaged in
farming full time and will-be
required to sign a work
agreement indicating work to
be done. method of payment .
and alternate work plan 'for
inclement weather. Each
farm' employer will pay
$90.00. per day for the ser-
vices of the Agricrew it the
conclusion of the work per- _
All, Agrirrew members will
be required to participate in
orientation sessions and
must understand that hours
can• be irregular depending
- 'on the weather and activity.
Agriefews will start work on
June 22nd and will conclude
on AuguSt 15, 1981.'
