McLean, editor of the Huron Expositor, was the first of only seven 'secretary treasurers in McKillop Mu- tual's %history., He served 1876 and 1877 and was" followed . by W.J. Shannon, 1876-1900. Thomas Hays, D.F. McGregor, 19244932. M.A. Reid. 1932- 1959, W.E. Southgate. 1959- 1966 and Margaret Sharp. who was held the post from 1966 to today. The company was fortned without capital stock. and members were 'iSi4sed a percentage of their premium note to cover their share' of the company's losses. It was 'only at the turn of the century when mutuals finally began collecting premiums. based on• risk against prem- ium note that each policy holder had to; sign to build up a surplus against 'major losses.
