' Writers certainly don't pen sou gs• the
wav'they used to. When I was a teen ager,
was influenced by tunes with unforgettable
melodies and deep meaningful lyrics,
Today. in moments of solitude, the
haunting phrases flit through my Mind
once more.
"'Duns dum a diddly duet
_ What .1 say.? • -..
Dum dun) a diddly dum.
Oh • yea!
Dune dum a diddly dum.'•
How could anyone forget such thought-
provoking•lyrics? ,
"I Met him •on ,and niy heart
stood still.
Da doo ron ron da doo son roil.-
. Somebody told ,me that his name was Bill. •
Da 'doo ron ron ma, da doo ron ,
It still brings' tears to my eyes. and
speaking ortears...
"it's my party and cry if 1 want • to
Cry if I want to, Cry if I want to:
You would cry. too, if it happened to you."
Some musical questions have yet to 'be
answered: .
"Who put the bop in the bop shu, bop?
Who put the wham in the wham a wham a_
diog dong?''
Background singers were vital- in those
days. This was never more apparent than•
in one of my all-time favourites "The Lion
Sleeps At Night." in which the pulse of the
jungle was brought alive with the continu-
ous chorus of... .
"Wreem-a-whip: a-weem-a-whip.: a•weeni-
&whip; a-weern-u-whip."
• Classic stories were told; such as
•'f.m Henry VIII, I am: Henry VIII. Vain. V.•

She'' been married seven times befort,:.
And everyone was• a Henry.
Site wouldn't have a Willie or a•Sani

And then my- poor -meatball was nothing

Songs like that still 'choke nie up. Writers
always try to reflect the mood of the times
• through their songs. and a few years ago
this tune brought music lovers to their feel:
"Here he comes
There he goes
And he ain't w earin' no clothes—.
Oh,' yes, they call him The Streak
He likes to show off his physique:.
Where there's an audience to he found.
He'll' be streakin' around
Causin' p lbfic critique."
In recent years. I have bemoaned the lack
of meaningful music on the airwavetil
Writers just don't seem to write the ay
they did when I was a teen. I had althost
lost hope. until this morning. It was music
to my ears:
"What's, a matta ctu?
Why you looka so sad?
It's a .not so bad.
It's a nice-a place.
Shut uppa your face!'''
