person of Mr, T. 0. Cooper, who died
at the ripe old age of 91 years. De-

'George Gordon, having sold his
property here has decided that he
will take up bis residence in Berlin,
where he moved the other day. It
is 51 years since he first located
here, and this constitutes him practi-
cally the oldest inhabitant of - the
place.' He is a man who has al -
:mays enjoyed the uonfidence and
respect of bis fellows, and the good
wishes of many friends go with him
to his new home.
The fall fair last week was very
well attended, though many were
' deferred by the threatening state of
the weather in the morning. The
afternoon turned out beautiful. The
absence of speeding events was
noticeable, and there being nothing
to keep the spectators on the ground
after an inspection of the exhibits
had been made, the great majority
went up town, where the merchants
. enjoyed the benefit of their presence,
for nieny fat bund'es were carried
from the stores. The display in all
departments was fairly good. The
gate receipts insured the shoves
financial success. A minstrel show
in the evening delighted a large
crowd who stayed to take in the
fun.
Wm, Cantelon, Goderieli, who was
a Cousin to Peter, Wm. and David
Cantelon, of town, died in Goderieb
last Saturday at the age of 75 years,
Deceased was born in Ireland,emigra-
ting to Ghia country when quite a
yoang man. Although he spent
good deal of his time it the States en-
gaged in the lumber business and In
this way acquired a good deal of his
wealth, yet be took up land on the 7th
concession of oderieh township, and
always was a Canadian. About 26
years ago he retired from his farm to
Clinton, where he lived for 5 or '6
years, then removing to Goderieh

The annual fall fair of the Kinloss
Breech Agricultural Society will be
held in Lucanow on Oetober 3rd and
4th. The purses for speeding in the
ring and other attractions are the
largest ever offered. by the society.
Mr. John N. Ross, the village
assessor and collector, while walking
along the railroad, slipped off the
rail at the crossing near the grain
elevators and fell to the bottom of
the "cattle guard." He was not
. seriously hurt, but he got a pretty
bad shaking up, and his shoulder
and aka are considerably bruised
and blackened.
Mr. Thos. Burns, sr„ of Willough-
by street, in this village, met With a
serious accident on Saturday after-
noon, Sept, 16th, by falling about
twenty feet tutu the bOttom of a
newly dug well on his premises.
He was levelling the ground around
the top of the well and the loose
ground between the curbing and the
bank gave way, throwing him head
first into the well. His head is bad.,
ly eut, and he is otherwise severly
bruised. about the body, but we are
pleased to say be is not dangerously
hurt.
A large gang of men are employed
on the improvements to be made to
the -Grand Trunk station -in this
-village. The building -is to be moved
• about 124 feet south of its present
position, and it will be lowered to
the ground so that it will not be
