A patriotic entertaintnent was
given under the auspices of the
lepworth League on Tuesday evert
ing in the Methodist Church; there
was a fair attendance, but owing to
tbe threatening state of the weather
many were kept at home, but those
who did come enjoyed a rare treat,
The church was •tastefully docorated
with flags and flowers. A splendid
programme was given. Rev, 'Mr.
Oaten occupied the chair in Ms usual
happy state. Mr, Kerr, editor of the
Brussels .Post, gave a 'very interest-
ing and instructive address on "The
Flag," and Miss Jamieson, of Win-
nipeg read an essay on "Patriotism,"
which was eareftt;lly prepared and
well delivered. 0. McClelland in
his usual good style gave several
patriotic songs which were Highly
appreciated by the audience.

A startling incident, of wbioh. Mr.
John Oliver of Philadelphia, was the
subject in narrated by him as follows:

The Grand Trunk depot at this
place was completely destroyed by

Tbe fire started at 2 o'clock. A stiff
wind was blowing from the southeast,
and it was only with the greatest
difficulty that the -grain warehouses
across the track, were saved.The
loss on the whole will be heavy.
The fire is said to have started

of baseball was played between

races were in order. A baseball
match, Palmerston vs Listowel, re-
sulted in favor of Palmerston, score
14 to 7. • The Listowel football club
defeated the Wingham boys by a
score of 2 to 0.
R. Elliott,of Ingersoll, H. O. R, of
the Canadian Order of Foresters
visited the local Court on. Monday
evening of this week and delivered
an address showing the progress
