Last Tuesday, 35 juniors and five weary chaperones returned from a bus trip to the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey. The kids were weary too, but the' excitement of the day kept them buzzing right to the parking lot. Many of them had hats covered in autographs, and young Danny Dalton was the lucky winner of Andy Bean's golf bag, The instructional clinic put on by Bean and pro Keith Fergus was great for the kids, After a day's respite but not rest, it was time for the Annual Junior Invitation at the Seaforth Golf and. Country Club, Parents brought their young golfers from Kincardine Stratford, Bayfield, Mitchell, Wingham and the Seaforth area. There were 62 junior golfers and the over all winner was Ray Anstett Jr, of Seaforth who shot a 75 to take the junior title. Jamie Pearce (79) from Bluewater won the Juvenile division and Bob lafrate (85) from Kincar- dine won the Bantam title. , In the girls division Allyson Scott (99) defeated Jennifer Watt in a playoff of the first extra hole. Both girls are from Seaforth. As Junior Golf Week continues, the youngsters are sponsoring a draw for a shirt in the Pro Shop. ladies' night was cancelled July 1 due to the holiday, but men's night went ahead on Tuesday. Winners were Bob Gridzak, Phil Hoggarth, Cam Doig and Laurie Kruse. In the match playdowns for the Crown Life Pro Am, the results to date are: 1st Flight - Jerry Wright defeated Mike Marion, Kevin Bennett defeated Jim Watson Sr.„ Marc Robinet defeated Doug Elliot. and Flight - Moe, Huard defeated John Hynonen, Phil Hoggarth defeated Stan Mailloux. 3rd Flight - Gord Scott defeated Doug Vock. The regular men's and ladies' match playdowns are continuing, as is the Junior division. Brenda Empey defeated Cathy Elliot, Jean Stewart defeated Barb Watt, and Allyson Scott defeated Jean Dow. Wednesday July 17 is the Ladies' Invitation. The field is full and it looks like a great competition. • Rec. department pleased with public response Thanks to all who supported the Canada Day Celebrations in Seaforth. Approximately four hundred and fifty people attended the Polka Dot Door Show at the Arena. There was also an excellent turn out at the Fireworks Display, A special thank you to the Optimist Club for their donation. Summer programs (Playscho 1, Play- ground, LIT) began last week. number of special activities are taking pia this year., It's not too late to register. Call the Rec. Office (527-0882). Junior Tennis Club started this past gaturday., Instruction tournament play and clinics are some of the activities planned. You may still register by calling the' Rec. Office. Keep July 27 open as the Ontario Tennis Association will be conducting a clinic at the Highschool. Adults as well as Juniors are welcome. Plans for the Fall and W inter Brochure are beginning already. Community Groups should contact the Rec Office with their calendar of special events. Seaforth Minor Baseball Paper Drives continue on Saturday, July 13, August 10 and September 14. Please have your papers by the curb at 9:00 a.m. Thank you for your support. Seaforth Lawn Bowling Greens hosted a men's pairs tournament last Wednesday and winning the tournament was the entry of Bill Neely (skip) of Stratford and George Hildebrand (lead) with three wins and 56. In second place was Walter Newcombe and Elmer WI urray of Clinton and third place went to Fred Miley and Neil Bell of Seaforth, In fourth place was Lou Cundari and Cecil Holliday of St. Marys while Reg Robinson and Walter Westbrook won the consolation. In a ladies pairs tournament held in Lucknow also on Wednesday Eileen Adam- son and Esther Brady came second with three wins and 33 while Mary Finlayson and Olive Papple were third with three wins and 32. In Mitchell's Merchants and Manu- facturers tournament on Saturday the rink of Fred Tilley (skip) Betty Tilley (vice) and Sandy Pepper (lead) were high with three wins and 53 over plus of four. Don Sibley's rink from Woodstock were second with three wins and 43 and third was Art arid Mary FInlayson and Eric Matzold with three wins and 42 over plus of six. Two Seaforth rinks competed in Brussels on Thursday in mixed pairs and Mel and Esther Brady were two game winners. Eric Matzold and Art and Mary Finlayson also were fourth at Exeter mixed trebles. The men's dub will begin their competition of bowling with a new member on Monday night. Loral jitneys are being well attended on Tuesday and Thursday evenings when the weather is favorable. Seaforth will be hosting a men's pairs tournament on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. bowling for the Stewart Bros. trophy. The ladies provincial seniors will be played off in Seaforth on Monday at t2:30 p.m before ladies day bowling. Good bowling to all.
