GRADES GRADUATION HEW
On Monday, June 24 the grade eight class
of Brussels Public School held its graduation
exercises, in the Melville Presbyterian
Church. Diane Rath provided the music while
the guests arrived. Ken Scott welcomed
everyone followed by the singing of 0'
Canada with iDiane Rath at the piano. Kathy
Graber said Grace then everyone enjoyed a
delicious meal. Following the meal the
introduction of the Head table guests, staff
members and the students introduced, their
parents. Toasts were held to thank the
• following; School Board by Tim Cousins,
reply by Don McDonald; Teachers by Cherida
Garniss, reply by Lynne Henry; Parents by
Tim Dillow, reply by Jerry or Marg Dillow;
Students by Bev Cardiff, reply Sandra Marks;
Home and School by Marjorie Campbell,
reply Jane McDonald; Thanks to the Bus
Drivers was given by Ja$011 Devlin, to the
caterers by Mark Pennington.
, The Valedictorian was Corrinna Stephen-
son. The following teachers introduced the
graduating class, Emily Cousins, Mary
Huether, Doreen Raymond, Jim Prior,
Margery Muether, Alison Hyland, Idella
Wilson, Diane Rath, Ken Scott and Cheryl
Cronin, The guest speaker was Peter
Gryseels, Superintendent of Personnel,
Huron County Board of Education. The
presentation of AWards then took place, (See
page 133 for additional graduation informa-
tion),
' LINDA MACHAN HONORED
On Friday, June 28 a miscellaneous shower
was held in the Brussels United Church
basement for Linda' Machan prior to her
marriage to Jim McDonald. Linda, her
mother Florence Meehan and Marilyn
McDonald were at the front. Sandra Pepper
accompanied herself and Nancy. Walker on
the piano while they sang a duet. Carolee
Pepper also sang a solo. Sandra Pepper put
On a skit/about getting a licence. Nancy and
Sandra had a fill in the blanks contest.
Following this Linda was presented with
many beautiful gifts. She thanked everyone
for them and for attending. Lunch was served
by friends and neighbors,

Brownies and Geides finished off another
year in style by hovering over the community
they serve in airplanes piloted by Don
Martin, Jim Knight and Garrett Van Keulen.
They would like to thank all those who
supported them with the sale of their cookies,
calendars, etc. and thanks to the three
gentlemen for donating their time and
airplanes for their benefit. Thanks.
4-H NEWS
On Wednesday, June 26 the Brussels I and
U clubs held their last 9-H meeting for "Score
With Safety" in the library. There were 14
members and four leaders present, This
meeting was on First Aid.
The guest speakers at this meeting were
Betty Graber and Debbie Trollope, members
of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade,
Brussels Branch 901. The members took the
St. John Ambulance lifesaver First Aid
Course under the leadership of Mrs7Graber
and Mrs. Trollope, and,doing this it qualifies
them for completingeir prqteet. When the

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald McCauley and Steven
and Dorothy McCauley attended the 40th
Wedding Anniversary of 'lime and Eloyee
cCauley of St. Marys. Open house was held
from 2 to 4;30 on June 22 and Dorothy
McCauley attended the dinner at 6 p.m. at
the Salvation Army Citadel. Their family of
Kevin of St. Mays. David of London, Susan
and Wendy of St. Marys and Gail of $1,
Thomas all were present. Their youngest
daughter,Wendy played the guitar and sang a
song she had composed for her Mother and
Father.
Joan Cardiff graduated from Fanshawe
College on Jure 21. Those attending were
Murray and Setty Cardiff, Jeff and Cathy
Cardiff. Scott Cardiff and Margaret and Ed
Elston of Aria.
CHURCH NEWS
Sunday, June 30 the attendance at Melville
Presbyterian Church fell slightly due to the
long weekend and holidays. Margaret
Shortreed, a member of the choir, sang a
solo. Prayers were said for Mrs. Kerr, Mrs.
Warwick and Mr. McFarlane who are in
W inghtne hospital and Mrs. bier Cameron
who is in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Rev
Jamiesor gave thanks to Karen Cardiff who
so ably filled in for Mrs. King who was away.
The worship at the Callendar Nursing Home
is by the Presbyterian Church.
May God's richest blessings be upon Chris
Ryan and Brenda Ten Pas who will be married
Saturday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Soltysik
assisting Rev Jamieson with the service.
If you have not had at least one visit from
your minister, please assist him by arranging
a date by July 31. The Brussels United
Church will be pining us for worship in July
while Rev. Charles Carpentier is on holidays.

house in Cranbrook.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Dunn, Ustowel, were
calling on several in the village on Wednes-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. John Vanass and family
spent the holiday weekend camping at Point
Farms. Goderich.
Mrs. Don Cotton • spent several days in
Listowel Hospital.
Mrs. Patrick Adams and daughter Maur-
een, Manotick, and Janet Witch, London,
visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clare
Veitch the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Clare Veitch attended the
50th wedding anniversary celebration for Mr.
and Mrs. Walter McGregor, Cambridge, Galt
on Saturday. June 29.
