PRESER TERY OF MAITLAND.
Presbytery of Maitland met at 'Kincar-
dine on Jan. 17th, Rev R MacLeod, I3.D.,
moderator. The Presbytery aecepted the
resignation of Rev A Macltab of the.
pasto;ate of Whitechurch and Langside,
expressing their appreciation of the
earnestness and high character of his
labors iu this field, and their esteem for
him as a christian man and minister, and
regret sincerely his departure from them,
and commend him most highly to vacant
fieldsas well fitted mentally and spirit•
ually to be a faithful, effective and eucees•
fat pastor. The resignation is to take
effect on the first Sabbath in May.
The Presbytery unanimously passed the
following ressolution :—"That we, as a
Presbytery, place on record a sense of the
loss sustained in tho removal by death of
one of our members, the Rev.Jne.Stewart.
We would gratefully recognize ithe yaried
and faithful services rendered by him as a
minister of the Gospel during the last
forty years in the Marione Provinces,
Ontario and Manitoba. His direct earnest
evangelical preaching, his feithfulness'in
pastoral work and his regularity in attend-
ing the courts of the church are worthy of
commendation and praise. Ms sociable,
sympathetic nature has attracted to him a
host of friends .throughout the Dominion
who now mourn his loss. As a Presbytery
we would express our christian sympathy
to his bereaved widow and family, and our
prayer is that their bereavement may be::
sanctified to their present 'mad -eternal
welfare."

church, was asked to sit as a correspond-
ing member. It was•agreed that three
thousand copies of small pamphlets en
