It isn't often that a $12,500
glint' promised by Perth
County Council isn't needed
by the group that requested
it,
In fact, that happy turn of
events rarely happens to any
government body.
But when Bryce, Skinner
'and Charles Roney appeared
at the. September session of
council last Tuesday; it was
to announce that tho Mitchell
Health Centre wouldn't be
needing the second half of a
$25,000 grant promised by•
council to the centre last
year. Roney, one of the
centre's .directors, preceded
his-announcement of good
news, tothe cottncil with the
• comment that this could very
well be the first time any
such grant has been refused.
Mr. Roney explained that

in assistance, half of vv,hith
was paid last year..
Since that time however, a
gift of about $120,000 from ,
the estate of , William and
Carrie Hoflick and a surpris-
ingly good campaign for
funds have greatly improved
, the centre's financial status.
"Our campaign for funds•
turned out better than We
thought it would;" said
Roney.
The fund-raising drive was
successful in achieving its
goal Of $150,000. ,
' Mr. Roney explained that
the rest of the $300,000 spent
building the health centre
can be recovered from rental
of the centre s office space.
He told council the centre is
fully occupied now, with two
doctors,' a dentist, an
optometrist and a public
.health nurse all paying rental
fees,
Mr. Roney told council the,
glint, money promised the
centre should be feed for
other., worthy causes which
may need it.
Warden Rae Bender
congratulated Roney and
Skinner, acting chairman of
the centre's board of director
on the success of all their
fund-raisirig efforts..
Mr. 'Bender called the

news" and was especially
thrilled to receive it •"just
