Huge
There were 15 tons of frozen vegetables
unloaded on Brodhagen's main street on
Tuesday.
The Vegetables, brought to town in a
refrigerated truck by Kitchener-Waterloo
Food Services Ltd., were ordered by area
shoppers who didn't. want the bother, of
freezing their own fruits and vegetables.
The frozen produce was ordered through
Buck's general store in. Brodhagen, and the
promotion, set a record of sorts.
Nicholas- Hoflinger, president of the
Kitchener company, said his firm usually •
sells their bulk ' packages of froiew
vegetables to restaurants, hospitals and
other institutions.
However, the tuck family had tried a
similar promotion last year on a smaller
scale--letting customers order frozen
vegetables in bulk through their store:
This year, they expanded their pro-
motion and Mr. Hofli get said it was the
most successful pron ion their firm had
been involved in with a tore of this size.
The vegetables were packaged in 30
pound and 24 pound bulk packages and the
fruit in 30 pound pails.
. Martha Ische, dressed in a snowmobile
suit for the occasion, lifted the frozen
produce down from inside the refrigerated
transport truck:
Douglas Buck checked off orders as
shoppers lined to pick up the produce
they'd 'ordered.
The vegetables were allCanadian grown
with...the exception - of the broccoli and
cauliflowerVlifeh were' imported from
California.
