The Molson's Ontario
Motocross championship was
decided at the Walton Moto-
cross track Sunday after-
noon. Originally, one more
race had been planned in the
series but its cancellation
gave Jay Kimber from Font-
hill the championship. He
narrowly edged out a New
York State rider for the top
Jerma Rautianinen
from Thornhill was third.
On Saturday 240 schoolboy
and junior riders from all
over Ontrio competed while
Sunday saw the expert riders
race. The two day event
atracted about 3,000
spectators and scores of
racers from many states and
'as far west as British Colum-
bia.
Meet organizer, Chris Lee
of Walton thought the event
was quite successful and said
the top riders find the
Walton track extremely chal-
lenging. "Generally the
track is a good or better than
anything in Canada", he
said.
The Maitland Valley Dirt
Riders, who sponsored the
races, are planning for a
repeat weekend "next year.
The Walton Recreation
Committee, which supplied
food and drink prevailed
through Saturday's inclei
ment weather to serve up
huge quantities Of bacon
burgers, hot dogs and hot
cob corn to, appreciative
riders and spectators.
