Homemaking 4-H clubs in Huron as well
as across Ontario will undergo some
changes this year and as part of what
Huron County Home Economist Bea
McClenaghan says is continuing to expand
services to people,
She said many have the misconception
• that 4-H is for rural peopleonly bUtit is'for
people who live in cities,,tmirns and hamlets
as well. She said there are many projects
that boys can take as well as girl and that
()MAF is also trying to expand the
program se that more of the family
members of an individual taking a club
are• aware of what's going on.
Miss McClenaghan said enrolment or
lack of it didn't have much to do with the
proposed changes since enrolment
fluctuates anyway.
Since leader.workshops don't start until
the middle of August for the first project,
Essential Edible's, Miss McClen
said home economists won't be able to
judge the response to the changei on a
comparison basis until this
project has been completed.
She said right now they're in the process
of getting the 4-H-clubs together' and are
alwaysVerested getting new leaders
and. having new clubs formed.
"I think that if we've get a strong group
of leaders we've got a good basis for
getting a laf'ge number of meniherg,4 ' Miss
McClenaghati said,

homemaking program include less written
material in the project workbooks because
it's a fill-in manual.
Miss McCienagham - said the book is
interesting to look at visually and provides
quizzes, crosswords, and puzzle_ activities
that' can be done right at the meeting.
The achievernent day, program is going
to be cut down. What used to be a full
morning and _afternoon on a Saturday
probably be held now on an evening or
Saturday, mOrning`and ineolbers will be
presenting their projects and skits while
eliminating the part of achievement day
where they used to have quizzes.
Planners have also tried to cut down on
the number of meetings from about eight
regulars plus special meeting to get ready
for achievenont day to ill( regulars and
one meetinethat will allow people to get
ready for achievement day. •
Of the changes, being made, Miss
McCienghan says, \"We hope flier it's
going to be more interesting. We hope that
young people will find more time and
complete the projects with a little more
ease."
She said some of the changes had been
asked fOr by member's and leaders and she
feel's. that 4-14 homemaking projects ate
now more informative and up-to-date.
She said some of the proposed changes
, were talked about at achievement day so
that some people' are already aware of
