He first founded the village of Athlone after coming to Canada before moving to Carronbrook in the 1850's. By. 1875 he owned three saw mills, a.salt block and a number of othe,r businesses and employed 50 men. Many of his buildings were destroyed in the 1879 fire which swept through the town.
