Local community org.aniiations
are' being asked to appoint
representative to serve on a
fundraising committee for the
Scaforth Arena.
Although .extensive work was
completed at . the community
centre :last year, the Seaforth
ArenaBoard is aware of two other
areas which must be upgraded.
These areas are the lighting
and the P.A. system and- repairs
will,. cost about $12,000, The
present grant system (Wintario
and Community Recreation
Centres Act) allows the board to
apply for one-half of this amount,
but the rest of the funds must
come from the private sector.
Clive Buist, recreation director,
said, "We felt that a fund-raising
committee should be formed from
the various groups using the
arena, to help raise the $6,000."

fillsonburg, has been hired as the
new park manager and arena
assistant for the town of Seaforth.--,
Mr. Todd will start his duties
al May '1.
The TillsoribUrg native was one
of 12 applicants who applied for
the position, which pays $9,300 a
year.
Mr. Todd spent two years at
Fanshawe College, and 'has ex-
perience both. in pool main-
tenance. and' organizing group
The parks manager will spend"
from May iii September at the-
park, supervising pool activities,
and the remainder of the year at
the arena.

student and he's stayed near the

Last winter the local athlete
joined the London ,-Western Track
Club and he travels to' .London
twice a week to work out with
coach Bob Vigars,

method (whirling movement), a
method which Vigars said,
"Takes a good athlete' to Warn-
it."

Columban • Soccer Clubs
opens the 1978 season this
coming Sunday, May . 7, Si.
Columba!) will . again operate 2
senior teams' in the London :and
District Soccer Association this
year. The ."A" team will compete
in the 2nd Division while the "B"
team plays in the 3rd Division.
This Stinday the "B" team will
contend with the London
Portuguese "B" team at 1 p.m.
with, the "A" team meeting St.
Thomas "A" at 3 p.m. Both
games are in Si. Columban. St.
Thomas is striving to win the 2nd
Division and earn promotion to
I he, 1st Division. They' have
pla\ed several more exhibition
games than St, Columban and
wilt 'give the local teani all they
can handle.
St. Columban 6; Stratford
In, their only exhibition game
before league play starts, St.
Columban came up with a solid
game and easily outclassed the
Stratford team. There was no
scoring in the first half as both
teams seemed to be struggling.
However, in the 2nd half St..
Columban looked like a different
team as .they took complete
control of the game.,
