The answer iS simple: I don't. When an idea strikes me, I jot it down. If I'm lucky a eofumn evolves in-one sitting; if not, I file it for future reference. . „ I try to stay at least one week ahead of schedule ty-,), alio* time for mailing, Sometimes, ideas flow; and I write three oz four coltimns in cFie week. Then I don't have to write another column for a few weekss and can gather fresh ideas. Having three Or four columns on hand t, sounds. extremely organized, doesn't it?. Unfortunately, it doesn't stay that way. This ,,, week, for instance, I have no column and no concrete ideas on w ch -to build. I'd like ,to write s mething witty that will tease your ind f. days. Or, I'd like to compose somet g of global significance that you will refer to from time to time. (Dreamer!) What topics come to'tity mind? One •subject is the plummeting dollar, but that won ft cheer any Canadian. • I also think 'of the millions of wives in Canada and the .U.S. who have become widows to their TV' sets. Between hockey • 1:4y-offs:and baseball Openers; it's difficult to :End - other ..progfaitiST-EVen if'-you dd find a. good movie or variety show, someone in the house' will „probably admonish you with the' cry, "'1t the playOffS."1 gotta see the gamer' f TO be honest, I admit l' m on the latter side. In our family, My father and I are known as , the hockey nuts and are outranked-only by my brother-in-law and niece who .are baseball freaks. . Another thought that comes to my mind is .mud - nof,the kind that may be slung in the pp-coming election, but the kind that sucks our shoes into the ground and mires - ourcars. We can station coufget s at the doorand order everyone to removectheir boots:befote coming in, but somehow the mud still sneaks onto our floors. If mud is. all we have to worry about, • though, we shouldn't complain. Flooding has • caused serious pro,,blems for, h ome owners and 'business proprietors in many areas.. • ' Experience , should teach me to avoid the subject of weather, If I complain about Mucli• for example.sunshine may be pouring ovei'dry land by. the time youtead this. But, like many people, I seem to rely on the i weather.when I can't think of anything else to talk about. At' least in Canada we haVe variety. As one fellow mused, "What do people talk about' who live in places where the weather never changes?" . Mud and .floods,. hockey :and baseball, election guessing and a faltering-dollar may not all' be :cheerfttl' or extremely irripOrtan' .stthjects, but they are on, the mind of in Canadians 'in this spring of 1978.
