contest over Mice Paine's possessions
still continues- in New York courts.
One witness stated that the Miser wore
a continual smile. Judging from his

they smile with inward satisfaction,

-In three or four' weeks Thanks-
giving day will be here once more. We
presume the clergy of town will again
arrange for a union thanksgivirig. ser-
vice, embracing devotional exercises,
short addrestes and a service of praise-
ful song by members of the various
church choirs. We have had excellent
and profitable meetings of this nature
in past years, ara weknow that our
citizens generally would be pleased 31)Ce
more of the opportunity such a service
affords of uniting in thanksgiving to
the Giver of all Good for His bounti-
ful mercies and blessings.
-The children's day of Main -street
Methodist Church was well observed
last Sabbath. A most excellent and
appropriate sermon was delivered in
the morning by Rev. Jos: Philp, of St.
Thoinas, to a large and'attentive audi-
ence. In the afternoon short and
appreciative addresses were delivered
by Revd's J. Graham, pastor of James
st, and J.Philp, to the children of' the
Sabbath school, there being a large at-
tendance of the parents and friends,
especially the former; which is conclus-
ive evidence of the interest taken in.
the matter of Sabbath. school work.
One of the principal points of Rev.
Graham's address was the appeal to
parents and guardians to the work of
home training. The chair was ably
filled by Mr. R. &Idol], the newly ap-
pointed superintendent, who dispensed.
with the duties devolved upon him in
a yeey fitting. and concise manner, and
that rsopereon better fitted for the pos
itionscould be appointed, as Mr. Sold -
on ie a whole -soul worker, devoted to
thE cause of Right, and nothing will be
omitted to advance the interests of the
Sabbath school while it iemains under
his superintendency.
