the Globe says :—The situation now
st•t•111s to be simply One if eupply and
demand. A shortage in the world's
elrlina must be spade up by import-
ations from those countries where
there lifts been no deficit intim yield
and the price will advance or deelline
according to the extents of the ro-
(litlrl'altnts of foreign countries.
Experts are unanimous as to the
amount of shortage in the world's
wheat crop. The Marehe Francais
of Paris estimates t1I( world's wheat
surplus at 31.1,000,000 bushels and
says that North America can furnish
96 ,0()0,000, South America 44,000,-
000, and that ,Russian stocks are
larger than in 1895. The American
Minister at St. Petersburf., in a re-
cent report sent to Washington gave
an estimate Of the shortage in the
world's wheat crop which put the
ii»urea at 185,000,000 bushels. The
Price Current estimates the Crop in
the- United States at 450,000,000
bushels. Some think that is . exces-
sive, The Government estimate is
412,000,000 bushel,. If to the Iattedr
is added 105,000,0O0 bushels, as
carried over from last year, it gives
Ja total of 517,000,000 bushels. It is
conceded that the requirements of
the United States will total 375,000,-
000 bushels. The exports to date
have been 52,000,000 bushels, and
if they continue in the sante ratio to
July, 1891 there would only be
°011e 38,000,000 bushels left in the
country. .The exports lately have
been enormous. Both wheat and
flour have been largely bought by
foreign countries, and the Min-
neapolis mills are shipping large
quantities every day.
