It is hardly possible to get a crop
from young clover by midsummer
which is worth'the cutting, even i
no grain is grown with it. The grain
crop, therefore, comes as extra profit,
and however cheap it .may be, it is
better than taking an entire year's
use of the land to get a clover catch.

Carrots are excellent for colts,
horses, milch cows and all young
stock. Cabbages are valuable for
nearly all kinds of stock, and we
have yet to find any that will not eat
them greedily. They should have a
leeger place in our list of feeding

In most localities bees are now
gathering pollen and breeding rapid -
f 1y if they are in proper condition,
But little honey is gathered this
/month, and bees must draw largely
' on. their stores already in the hives to
feed and support their young brood,
More honey will be consumed during
this mouth, on this account, than has
been consumed the previous three or
four months. Many colonies become
entirely destitute of stores at this
critical period, and either starve to
death, or become crippled of their
usefulness throughout the summer.
Hence the importance of furnishing
them food at the time when most
needed, Any good syrup will answer
the purpose, but the best grade of
sugar is the cheapest in the long run.
Add a little water and bring it to
the boiling point, but no more, as it
will crystallize again if allowed to
boil any length of time. Enough
water should be added to give it the,
consistency of a thin syrup.—

It requires good food to make good
meat. Beef cattle may grow as fat
on one kind of corn as another, but
clean, sweet corn will produce the
best meat and a varied ration will
produoe better results than one grain
only. Second grade grain will'make
second. grade beef.
