There has been a steady demand
for butter during the past winter at
fairly remunerative prices. Some of
the "winter creameries," started a
few years ago, report the season to
have been the best they have yet
had, both as to quantity of output
and prices realized, We . hear that
several cheese factories leaving a
butter -making output will turn their
attention to butter during AprII
instead of cheese ; and six or sevens
in Western Ontario are putting in
buttermaking plants for that very
purpose, This will tend to restore
the balance between butter and
cheese, and will certainly mean an
increased butter business next
winter. Factories equipped for both
butter and cheese making can, if
they have taken the precaution to
put up a supply of ice, change from
one product to another on short
notice even in summer, providing
also that the maker understands, as
should nowadays, both branches of
the dairy business. Dairy Commis-
sioner Robertson, of Ottawa, has
been enquiring for several butter -
makers to go to the Northwest . and
British Columbia.

"In cases of inversion of the womb
after having properly replaced the
parts, a repetition of the trouble can
be prevented by the following method:
Take a smooth, 'round, three -
half -pint bottle, fill it with warm
water, and insert it into the vagina
with the neck protuding. To the
neck of the bottle securely fasten a
strong cord (a clotheslinewill do),
spreading out to four strands as it
leaves the bottle. Pass two of the
ends up over the back, where they
should erpss, then forward to a
suricingle ; pass the other two
strands between the legs, one each
side of the udder, also forward to the
surcingle. The warm water will
remove the inflamation, and the
bottle can soon be safely removed,".

THE WINGHAIVI. TIMES, APRIL 10, 1896,
Keepin-; an E;g 'Tracie, •
I do not, at the present tulle, ?
know of any business wherein more •
money can be made than in the set-
ling
etling of fresh eggs Undoubtedly •
the best profit in egg -farming is in
building up and maintaining a fancy
can trade. fa farmer years, the
simple statement that eggs came
from farmers was a guarantee of
their fresh ness. Unfortunately,
however, however, farmers have not
been able to hold this enviable r epu-
tation, Rotas customer's will at any
time pay a few cents more per dozen
for eggs which they know to be per-'
feetly fresh than they would pay to a
commission man or a grocer. On
the average farm Ileus aro allowed,
to roam where they will, no proper
nests are prepared for thele, and, as
a result, they lay :staler the barns,
arnongat bushes, or epee in a field of
grain. Perhaps, bsthea these nest
are dissevered, a 114„3t1 or two dozen
have been laid. Weal; is the result?
The nest is found, the (1. :dor d,)es not
know whether a c )rresp-)nding num-
ber of hens have laid them that day,
or whether these eggs represent the
output oFc one hen, extending over a
period of from. 14 to 30 days. It is
certainly more likely to be the latter
case, and, if this is so, there will un-
questionably be a number of very
stale, rotten, or partially lratcked
eggs amongst the number. These
eggs are gathered and are dumped
right in with the lot which have been
obtained on that day from the nests,
The result is that somebody will be
cheated, One bad egg under a dozen
placer the seller under suspicion.
The proper way to do is to be absol-
utely sure that your eggs are fresh,
and then guarantee them. Be sure
also that your eggs are nice and
clean. Eggs which present a clean
appearance will attract a buyer
much quicker than those which •are
dirty, and usually bring a cent or
more a dozen. I think another good
plan would be to assort or grade
them. Get them all as near a size
as possible. A doze,, clean small
eggs will logk infinitely better than a
dozen dirty Large ones. Be sure to
feed wholesome food, and keep your
eggs in a clean, sweet-smelling place.
Remember that eggs are quite as
easily tainted as milk or butter.
School Statistics,
The number of pupils receiving
instruction in temperance and
hygiene in the Public Schools of
Ontario has increased from 33,926,
n 1882, to 101,406 in 1894.
In 1894 the number of kinder-
gartens in Ontario was 90, with 184
eaehers. They were attended by
,340 pupils under six years of age.
In 1894, the total school poputa
tion of Ontario was 593,840. Out of
this the total number registered at
school was 480,979, while the
average attendance was only 268,-
334. •
The highest salary paid to a
Public School teacher in 1867 was
$1,350; in 1894, $1,500. The aver-
age for the Province in the foriner
year was $346 ; in the Latter year 1
$421. But the average for the year
preceding the one Last named, 1893
was slightly larger, viz., $423, while,
in 1887 it had been $425 there is no
reason to fear that the statistics for
1895, and especially for 1896, may
show a much more serious decline,

British valor is the theme of many a
thrilling story and stirring song. Mr.
Geo. Kingston, of 136 John street north,
is one of Hamilton's best known veterans
A man of material bearing, magnificent
physique ane genial personality, he is g
splendid representative of the best class
of British soldiers. To our reporter Mr.
Kingston readily gave an interview.
With all the pride of a citizen of that
empire on which the sus never sets, Mr.
Kingston said: "I aril a Devoushire man,
born near the banks of the Teign. I
entered the 13ritish army at 19, and serv-
ed 14 years in India. Was through the
Abyssinian campaign, and fought at the
storming and capture of Magdala, King
Theodore's stronghold. Here the king
and hundreds of his army fell. Napier,
the 'Hero of Magdala,' was created Lord
Napier of Magdala for his splendid ser-
vices. After this I returned to England,
remaining about five years, when I was
again sent to the sunny south until my
21 years' service was bearly up. That is
the place to get kidney and liver troub
les, and I was no exception. I was sent
as an invalid to the Netly Hospital for
invalid soldiers, and for months was a
suffering inmate, finally being discharg-
ed as a hopelessly incurable invalid.
Two years after I sailed for Canaria, and
have suffered . more or less ever since
freer the constant misery that kidney
trouble entails. Piercing pains in the
back, headaches and urinary difficulties
were seldom absent, so that when I not-
iced Doan's Kiduey Pill advertisement I
got a box from Zimmorm.an's drug store.
Relief came from the first few doses, and
before I had taken two boxes, the
pains had left my back and I felt
like a new man. I consider Doan's Kid-
ney Pills a wonderful medicine, the
more an because my complaint would
not yield to the skill of the beat
physicians in one of the greatest hospit-
als in Queen Victoria's dominions."
Continuing, Mr. Kingston said: "I
can recommend them as a quick cure for
kidney troubles without hesitation. How
could I do otherwise when they have
given me hack the health and vigor of
long ago?"
