in each County, the question will first

General Municipal Elections for 1897,

Provision is also made for the sub-

CLINTON.
The home of Mr. Win. Muir has
been suddenly plunged into mourn-
ing through the death of the honor-
ed head of the family. OnSaturday
morning the news spread that Mr.
Muir had passed to his reward about
9 o'clock Friday evening. It was
hard to realize that such was the
case, but it was too true. A couple
of weeks since the deceased met with
an accident by which his Jolt hand
was severely injured. He was
able to be about and the hand was
doing well. Last week Mr. Muir
complained of not feeling well and of
some ailment in the region of the
heart which terminated suddenly as
above stated, the cause of death be-
ing neuralgia of the heart. The
late Air. Muir was a sterling citizen,

NORTH POLE.
Reports have been received from
Dr. Nansen's exploring party, stating
that they have been successful in
reaching the North Pole. Unless t; e
United States demands it as flag
staff from which to fly the Monroe
Doctrine, thereby causing inter-
national complications this dis-
covery will be hailed with great
rejoicing. We do not know what
benefit it will" be geographically or

covery will bring fame to the intrepid
Doctor and no doubt his name will
be handed down the pages of history
with those of the early days of ex-
ploration such as Columbus, Cabot*,
Hawkin and Frobisher, and civili-

fact of his having reached the long
sought spot, will keep other fool-
