'Seaforth Novice played
three day tournament in
Mississauga at .the Dixie Arena.,
Staring Good Friday they played
their first game against Erindale.
With both teams skating very
hard the game ended with a 4-4
tie.
Saturday SeafOrth played, the
Erindale team again - and were
defeated with a score of 4-1.
On Sunday Seaforth played
against the Bert• Robinson team.
It was 'a very exciting and close
game as "the end of the_ third
period the game was tied 3-3. The
game then wentj.ttto sudden
death overtime to/break, the tie.
At the 3:50 mark the Bert'
Robinson team scored making the
score 4-3. Captain, Scott Driscoll
scored all 8 goals for,the Seaforth
team..
On Scott's 8th goal in

The Blues played an

I.H.L. NOTES:The annual awards
balc111,et is , set for May 7th.
Tickets are available from the
Captains and the executive.
If one player stood out during
the playoffs it had to be -Ralph
Wood. He didn't score a lot of
goals but .his non, stop checking
and skating allowed his mates to
pick their spots. As a result he
ended up with a multitude of
assists and earned himself this.
year most valuable playoff
performer.
Clive Buist scored 14 goals
during the playoffs for a new
league' record.
The rumors of a 4 team league
next season are beginning to
rumble again. This time,
however, they may be more
fact that fiction. The reasons
given by those, in favour of a
smaller league are considerable.
All you have to do is look at the'
Wings, Flyers and the overall,
calibre and see that it may be the
best thing for the league.
As already mentioned; this
Season's version of the Blues
were the -first 'team of that name
to win the league championship.
They broke up a 7 year monopoly
held by the Kings and. Stars.
The big win a..w,eek ago was
also the club's 11th in a row. For
the Wings, it was a frightful way
to end a season.but here is a team
that showed courage and
determination all season long.
They had a full team at the start
but a number of people quit the
team, after signing up to play yet,
and they found themselves toiling
all year with 6 or 7 skaters. One
night this past witifer only 4
showed up to play a game against_
the Kings. The league thought,
that by having• everyone pay up
front before the season started it
would-get rid of the deadbeats.
We now know that it failed. For
this, the Wings deseive all the
credit in the world for putting on
a good show with what they had.
CORRECTION:The heading on
Dave BroonVe's IHL story in last
week's' Expositor was wrong. The
word "not" shouldn't have been
included in the heading. The
Expositor apologizes to Mr:
Broome and the IHI.

10—THE HURON EXPOSITOR! APRIL 14, 1977
e ends with Blues c
•
(by Dave Broome)'
Just over a week ago, the
Toronto Blue Jays opened their
initial season with an impressive
9-5 win over the Chicago White
Sox.
With the beginning of the Ball
season comes spring and the sign
that our hockey year Is fast
__genius to an end.
Eicept for the pros and some
Junior Leagues, shinny has' all
but ended for another, term and
most players are now digging out
dusty ball gloves and practising
golf swings for the up coming
summer sports season.
With the playoffs now over or
just getting into the full swing of
things it means some teams have
bowed out for another season
while other have succeeded in
becoming champions of their
leagues.
The I.H.L. finished another
controversial season last
Wednesday night and when the
final bell, sounded the league had
a new champion.
The Blues closed out a fine
season by smothering the Wings
9-2, and easily' captured the
1976-77 1.H.L.crown. The team
rolled to a perfect 7-0 ,playoff
record and became the first Blue
club in league history to win all
the marbles.
- Pennant -
The club also won the, league_
pennant for finishing first; the
goaltending trophy; the scoring
trophy and last week playoff
trophy to make a clean sweep of
all the awards.
Ist Period
The scoring in the mismatch
started early when Clive Buist
connected at 3401 to -get the Blues
rolling. Dale Kennedy added a
• goal at 12:40 of the first perthd to
give his team a big 27 0 lead. The
Blues completly dominated the
opening frame and out 'shot the
Red Team by a 10-4 margin
2nd Period
It took only 2 minutes before
Clive Buist, with his second of
three goals, raised the Blue lead
to 3, goals.
Kevin Bennett scored for the
Wings and the "Red team. looked
respectable for the first time in
the contest.
. The play was just about even
_ with, most of it taking place
between the Blue lines.
One . amazing fact, that • is
almost impossible to believe
really happened, is that the Blues
actually outshot the Red team 8-0.
Bennetts • goal, which does not
count as a shot, was the only drive
• directed at goalie Larry Seymour.
3rd Period
Ohe could employ almost, any
adjective and use it to describe
' the total destruction of the Wings
in the final period. They were the
Titanic-hitting •5•Icebergs instead
of one. They were a team winning
a million dollar lottery and having
the dog chew up the ticket. They
were, the. New York mets,
,Washington Capitals and Tampa
Bay Buccaneers all, rolled up into
.one and playing their first season. •
- George Reeves -with a pair of
goals; Terry' Stephenson, Ralph
Wood, Ron Plumsteel and Clive
Buist all with single markers
provided the'Blues with a six goal
outburst that ended apy.hepes the.
Wings' had of winning. '
Lone Score
Kevin Bennett' scored. the lone
Wing tally. That goal was really a
non event because it was at least
2 feet offside. The Wing
defenceman was about all the Red.
