12-THE HURON EXPOSITOR, APRIL 7, 1977
Goliath was a rather large felloW
measuring 6 cubits and a span
from toe to the top of his head.
Now just how tall that really is has
been a subject of debate for
years.
AnyWay, 'Goliath had an ego
that matched his size. He issued a
challenge to the group across the
way who just happened to be the
Israelites. He boastfully dared
any man to match swords with
him, and the winner would takz

finals - no blasphemy -
intended.-
The Blues have been issuing
challenges, all year long but after
each game the team played, only
laughter and the snapping of
bottle caps could be heard
through their dressing room door.
-The Wings finally came
forward to accept the challenge' in
the finals and if they are to
become the "David's' of this
year's final they will have to
improve, on ..an attack that 'has
resembled a belch in a
windstorm. ' • Won 9 - 7
The Blues won last Sundays
opener 9 • 7 and it marked the 5th
time, in 5 games between the two
clubs, that they have defeated the
Red 'leant this season.
1st Period
The Wing's game plan was to
come out checking, force the
Blues into mistakes, and hope to
get an early jump by scoring a
goal or two. •
The strategy paid off with Art
Strong snapping in 4 quick goal
with only 2:50 gone in the first
period.
The wings played well for the
good part of the period but .a late
let-down resultedin., a pair of
scores by the Blues and the Red
team found themselves on the
short end of a 3.2 score as the
period came to a close,
George 'Reeves, ' Bob
Montgomery and Dale Kennedy
scored for the Blues during the
first period. Sandwiched in
between was a gOal by Wings'
Doug O'Reilly.

A 4-3. Again. `as in the first
period.. the Blues settled down
and late tallies by Dale Kennedy

their team with a one goal period
ending lead.
The third and final stanza
belonged to the Blues. Bob

scoring for the night,
Don't let that 9.7 score fool
you. The goaltendidg was so
jittery at both ends that Ronald
'MacDonald could have used both
seymore and Montgomery to ini)
milk shakes. '
It was a mistake filled contest
that was about as artistic as a
peep show.
i.h.l. notes The game's most
exciting aspect was in the way the
goals were scored in bunches. It
helped the large crowd (by 1.H.L.
standards) 'forget the mistakes.
There were 39 minutes. in
penalties - all minors.
'It was, a tough contest but
without any of the characteristic
hacking that, in past years, has
plagued playoff games.
It seemed the harder the Wings
tried the tougher the Blues
played. When the Red team
scored the - Blues bounced Tight
back with a goal.
It will be very hard for the
Wingi to win now. The Blues did
not lose 2 in a row all year long. In,
fact they have now-- won 10
straight games dating back to
• last lantiarjf when the Hawks
were the last team to manage a
victory - a 6-5 'win.
