make comments heard above the rest of the crowd, The real sharp
fans are the ones that laugh and
insult a player after he seriouslY
hurts himself as the result of a fall
or whatever.
They are the ones that call you
every name in the book when you
make a mistake, yet they
,themselves _probably never
j?layed the game, They are the
ones that you just can't expect to
hear anything intelligent from far
the simple reason there is nothing
to be found In a vacuum.
Game next week, April 3:
7:00 Wings vs. Blues
lost in the shuffle (again) fist
Sunday nigh:t and was unavailable
at press time. It has been a
nagging , problem that has
plagues the league all year long.
When league time keeper Bev
Brown is absent, the job just isn't
done right.
Although I have never
commented on.the fans before, I
think it mY turn since Some of
them take delight in showing just
how obnoxious they really are.
It's probably a lack of solid
hockey knowledge;, an inborn
ignorance; and a serious mental
deficiency that prompt some to
a 5-4 score.
For the Blues, the victory gave
them a perfect 5,0, record to close
out their round robin efforts,' For
the Flyers it ended a (him'
season and saddled them ivith
their 5th straight defeat. ,
The Blue team looked less than
impressive in defeating the ,
Flyers.
Dale Kennedy had 2 goals for
the Blues with Clive Buist, Ted
Montgomery and Ralph Wood all
adding single scores.
Rob Sallows, Paul Hulley, Glen
Malcolm and Jim Watson did the
Flyer scoring. The loss earned the
klyer club the dubious distinction
as ' being this season's worst
team.
LILL. Notes: The Blues
outshot the Flyers 43-21 while the
Hawks our-blasted the Wings
26-25. Strangely enough, the
Hawks were the only team to
outshoot their opponents in all
five games. With the departure of
the Blues' Bill Price, the odds on
the final series have dropped.
' Going out on a limb, the Wings
could win the series in three
games. But they will have to play
better than last 'week. The
Wing-I:146 contest has now
officially been rated as best of the
year. There were a number of
questionable calls last 'week,
especially near the ad of the
Hawk-Wing game. One of the
Wings jumped on the puck and
froze it with no Hawk player near.
The referee blew the play down
but no delay of game penalty was
called. It was an obvious penalty
but inconsistency by officials has
hurt all teams in the playoffs.
Hopefully it will improve fel. the
finals.
Then again, the play itself isn't
all that hot either. The score sheet
for the Stars-Kings _contest got
To hold separate

Wings checited the Hawks'silly
the first period and if not for some
incredibly good luck, the Hawk
team could, have been down by 3
or 4 goals'. • The first frame which ended
with the Red teath leading by that
1-0 Scote was close checking and
generally a dull affair loaded with
mistakes.
With the finalrperlcid Came the
firevvorks. It's almost impossible
td describe the' reasons for the -
complete turn-arounds by the two
teams in the last period.
The Wings came out fiat, while-
the Hawks totally reversed their
form of the first period and looked
at times awesome,.
-Terry Johnson scored early to
give the Red team' a 2-0 lead but
from that, point on one had to
wonder which team actually did
finish ahead during the regular
season. •
The Hawks led attack after
attack. The non-stop onslaught'
resulted in their only score - a
goal by Jim Coleman with just 2
minutes left in the contest. The
Hawks pulled their goalie with
about a minute_ left._ A,wild flurry
. around the Wing net ended when
the Red team iced the puck with
just a few seconds left.

(By Pave Broome)
The 1976-77 season 'has
now officially ended for all but
two teams and a much anticipated
three way tie for second place
never materialized.
The Blues and Wings will face
off next Sunday night to begin a
best of three final to determine
this season's league champion.
The Blues advanced to the final
by virtue of a perfect 5-(1 round
robin record while the Wings
gained their finals berth on the
basis of a 4-1 finish.
Stars 6, Kings 2
The green team went into their
contest with the Kings with the
knqwledge that a victory
ecirnhinecl with a Wing loss would
get'them one more chance at the
league final. The club responded
by thumping the Royal squad 6-2
during last Sunday's early match.
Unfortunately, for the Stars,
the, victory turned out to be
nothing more than some extra, ice
time because the Wings edged
the Hawks 2-1 in the second game
of the night.
The Stars easily outclassed the
Kings in running up- -a 6-0 lead
before the opposition COuld
counter with a couple of late
scores.
The Stars are the best of a bad
lot that will pack it away for
another season. They could very
well be the best balanced team in
the league but a slow start at the
beginning of the round robin
killed their chances.
And what can you say about the
Kings? Nothing really. Outside of
Rick Fortune, Bill Salisbury,
Murray -Connelly and Kevin
Broome the team lacked just
abOut everything. The only
distinction they earned was the
fact that they were not the worst
team in the six team loop - the
Flyers have that title all to
themselves. •
Wings 2, Hawks. 1
This was the game that meant
everything to three 9f.the teams.
It was also billed as the contest of T,
the year and that is just Omit the
way it turned out.
Some sloppy clearing by the
Hawk defeTe allowed Art Strong
to steal a lopke pUck-and score the
lone goal of the first period. The

Shots Blocked
If a single determining factor
could be described to account for
the Hawk downfall, it could be the
number of shots blocked by the
' Wing defense. Fortunately, for
Gary Montgomery\ he had Kevin
Henderson, Art Strong and Kevin
Bennett stopping close to 20 shots
among the three of them.
Blued 5, Flyers 4
In a game that measured -3 on
the 0 to .10 iniportant scale, the
Blues held on to nip the Flyers by
Seniors Saturday, April 2.
