Councillor Wayne Ellis, chairman of Seaforth's police
committee, has told the Expositor that Chief of Police John
Cairns sought advice from the Ontario Police Commission last
fall when constable Rim Lauzon resigned from the, force.
Mr. Ellis said that in press reports at the time which quoted
him as saying "we'" or "the town" were told by the OPC not.
to give Mr. Lauzon a hearing bechuSe he had already
resigned. He was using "we" or "the town" to refer to the
police committee, of which the chief is an employee and
advisor. " -
Mr. ElliS said he did not cltinito bacro tilkedliersonally to
the OPC and that all contact with them was through Chief
Cairns. Councillor Ellis objected to the story in last week's
"' Expositor citing a charge from Dave De Vries that OPC "
chairman Elmer Bell.toklHuron-Middlesex MPP Jack Riddell
that 'Mr. Ellis had not contacted the OPC about the Lauzon
case.
