On Tuesday of last week, in
broad. daylight, a young Syrian,
living in Walkerton, and who had
been peddling goods through the
country, was attacked by four
tramps on the road leading from
Mildmay, half a mile from the
village. They disfigured his face,
tore his clothes, took all his cash
and goods and decamped.

Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, of Port
Huron, visited their mother, Mrs.
Moore, this week.—Mr. David
Gemmill left this week for the States,
where, we understand, he intends
travelling for a couple of months.•
There will be two re -opening services

next Sunday, at 11 a. m. and 7 p. m.

League intend holding a temperance
Literary on Thursday evening. An
interesting meeting is expected. --
Mr. and Miss. Steele, of Walkerton,
were the guests of Mr. and Mrs,
Hennings, this week. — Miss Mc-
Burney of Wingham, is visiting at
her sister's, Mrs. John McBurney.—
Rev. Mr, Fisher, of Gerrie, oc-
cupied. the pulpit in the Methodist
church here, on Sunday afternoon.
He took for his text, "Serve the Lord
with gladness," and delivered a very
able and impressive Sermon.—Messrs.
John Mel3urney and Fred Kitchen
wens as Jurymen to Goderieh this
week. The ice-cream party at
Maple Avenue, on Friday evening,
was enjoyed by all. --A farewell
surprise party, consisting of friends

LONDESBORO.
There will be a grand entertain-
ment in the Methodist church, on
Friday evening, Sept. 20th, got up
under the auspices of the Methodist
choir. It will commence at 8 p. m.
Music will be furnished by the On-
tario street choir of twenty-four
voices, Clinton, and Methodist choir,
Kinburn ; also duets, quartettes,
from Blyth and Turners' churches.
These will be interspersed with,:solos
and recitations during the evening
The choir is sparing no pains to
make this the best entertainment
ever given in Londesboro. Come
one, come all. Admission, children

Milston is in London this week.—Mr.
and Mrs. M. Braithwaite took in the
fair at London this week.—Mr. and
