P.'s made no; secret of the fact that Mr. Patterson's health had nothing to do with the compact by which he got the promise of the Governorship of Manitoba.. Thesole reasons for his retirement lay in the fact that his seat in the Cabinet was wanted for another one, 1 while•it was known. that Mr. Patter- son could not again be returned for West Huron. IT 1s almost a foregone conclusion that Mr. Thos. Gibson, M. P. P. for East Huron, will receive the appoint - went of Re1s trar , made vacantcant•bv the death of the late Jas. Dickson. Mr. Gibson has long fought the battles of the party, and has earned the position by faithful services. He is in every way qualified for the position, and the Trouts will be pleased to see his services recognized by the Government.
