The Seaferth Centenaires lest, a
real ' cliff -=hanger as...--the
Thameifbrd Trojans, seored with
less than 3 minutes remaining to
edge thelocal boys by a 3-2 score,
Playing before a small crowd on
Boxing Day the Centenaires put
up a gallant efford ,as the fourth
plaCe Trojans eked out the, win.,
The visitors opended a 1-0 first
period lead at the 2:12 mark as ‘'
they bombed ,goaltender Lou
As with 15 shots but only
'Managed goal. The second
.period •otitstanding
goaltending at both .ends as play
travelled from end to, end.
Thamesford moved up 2,-0 'at
the 17:42 mark on a.power play
goal only to see ,SEaf,-Irth come
right back with Paid McClure
scoring from Bill O'Shea at 19:52
to narrow :the gap to • 2-1. •
The final period again saw both
'teams play excellent hockey and,
the Centenaires tied the score at 2
all as. Don Heard skated the
length- of • the ice' and •.scored ,
unassisted. Thalriesfold got a
lucky deflection in front of the net
to score the winning goal with jsut
.two minutes left to play.
'The Centenaires had plenty of
chances 'for, the equalizer,' but,
couldn't Strike pay dirt. The game
was a clean hard skating contest
asionty '17 penalties were called,
with-Thamesford receiving 9.
Lucan Setiforth5
'The day after New.,, Years-
proved disasteroirs- -r for the
,Centeneires as the Lucan Irish
•upset th'e idar boys by a 9-5
count. The game Was even in the
.opening period as Seaforth scored
first •as Dave McClure scored
from Tom Cottonie only to see
Lucan even the score at the 4:38
4 mark.
Then Lucan moved in front 2-1
at 13:12 but just .35 seconds later
Scott Wheeler evened the score at
2 all with. Don Heard and Dave
McClure assisting. .
The - Second period proved
disasterous for SEaforth as Ludas:.
counted 5.:unaswered goals and
.completly deminated play to
move ih,front 7-2 and it looked
dike a walk-a--way by Lucan.
The final period however saw
Lucan move-up 8-2 then Seaforth
came to life and took 'control
scoring Icieick goals. One by, Bill
O'Shea, then Dave. McClure
added two to give him, his hat
trick and narrow the count to 8.-5
but time ran out and Lucan
counted an easy,lat&goal to finish
the scoring and take an easy 9-5
victoty.
The loss put the Centenaires
down five points on Lucan in their
bid for 'the final playoff spot.,
