Turnbull) On my return after a happy holiday in Ingersoll I checked here to find out how the residents' spent Christmas, as follows: Mrs. Lantz with her daughter Mrs. Gordon McGonigle and ' faintly .Mrs.• Olive Mtiir-With Mr. and Mrs. Ron Hansen:. Mr. ,and - Mrs. John' Pethick with their daughter Mrs. Ruth Pepper who served dinner to the family. Mrs. Sally Sillery with Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sille . Eddie Box with Mr. and Mts. Dia -Box. Mrs. Lena •13ennewles` with' •her ,. daught who planned a dinner meeting With her here. Mr. and Mrs: V.M.Seppala, London were guests of Mrs. E. W. Spurt , the 'Iatter's mother. .The usual traditional turkey dinner was served here at the Home for those unable to celebrate with relatives. AS I look out at this snowy weather some memories of other winters come to mind, I can only remember one school Was closed owing to the Storm. • • '"•• That was in 1916, 1 believe, when no train came into town for a week. There was a blockade west of Dublin and not very far from 'Seaforth. - The_ snowplough—was._ stuck: There was a cut twenty-twO' feet high. ,Many , went from town, perhaps by snowshoe, to see it. I also remember in 1938 there were no trains in or out of -town 'for a week..1 remember thit date,. as my brother mune from. England that year for Christmas. When he came to Canada on an extensive holiday he h ad to spend some time in the Toronto head office of the Imperial Life Assurance Co. . With no trains at that, time he was unable 'to get to Toronto. Cars didn't run during the winter but "at the first snow the battery was stored in the cellar and the car was jacked, up and stored in the garage' on blocks.
