On Wednesday evening the • Explorers andMessengers Egmondvil le United Church ' under the direction' of Mrs. Dawn Papple provided a lovely hour of music and also prrovided treats and -a-hand, shake to all present. Happy Birthday wishes were extended to Mr. Zachariah McSpadden who was celebrating his ,birthday. Monday afternoon at 1:30 pin. Seaforth Public School children, some thirty-six 'with teachers Mrs. Edna Bell • and Mrs., C. - Griffin sang their way into the hearts of all our residents. How nice t see these happy smiling faces, with their rosy cheeks from th ' walk over and everyone enjoyed their hospitality and, treats provided by the children. , Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m, Rev. CArson of Brussels Anglican , • church was in charge of the service and also Holy Comminion Was held'. Christmas carols were sung at this service, . TuesdaY evening the Carolers from Egmondville United Church with Mrs, Doris Carndchah in charge• and Mrs. Marion Rose at 'the piano led in an hour of singing carols and favourite Christmas pieces. Roads budget 'of -45 per . centoof their contributiop. Reeve Ginn told council at its Friday meeting that he objected tis the "underhanded' method tinter which the, rebates arc handled." "The , system," he said, "makes . the ' count j•, 'apportionment by-law ^ a- shambles." ' Reeve Ginn.sajd he would' not, oppose• the: rebates at this time but that he wart , everyone to know who gets them. He said Goderich was very vocal in p'6inting out that . it paid 14.4 per . cent of the apportionment but they forgot to mention that' after the rebates that contribution was -- actually dropped to 11.8 per cent. , Goderich Reeve Stan Profit told ', Mr, Ginn that the town' last year paid $149,555 toward the County Road budget and 'only got. back $67,299.. "I. can not see any objection to the towns getting this rebate," Mr. Profit, said. "In the end, the urban municipalities still pay the much, toward roads in the ..County." • Rising to •respond, Mr. Ginn said he had "expected an answer like that." ' , • "Goderich Townhip does not get a rebate from the , Library budget because we have no libary in •the township, "Ginn pointed out 'a'sking -why Goderich should get a 'rebate just because there were no county'roadS inside-that municipality.. The Goderich TownShip Reeve also charged. that the County Development budget provides no rebate to the township even though most of the. TromOtions- it handles, benefited . the Town of Goderich. , "Why do we provide rebates on road budgets alone?", he asked. 'lWhy is it any different than any, other committee?," County Engineer Jit Britneil • told the meeting tliate syStem • under, which rebates are granted is actually set out as-a Provincial. statute in the Highways Improvement Act.
