Improprer storage of farm
machinery over the wireter can
result in costly deteriorition of
parts, says John, Kessler,
secretary-manager of the Farm
Machinery BOard of-Ontario.
"Proper storage of machinery
is important, especially when the
cost of equipment is. high," he
said.
Leaving a tractor, combine or
any machinery in storage over the
winter months, without proper
preparation, can , cause
deterioration to chains, bearings,
'drive belts, batteries, shaf is and
rings.
Leaves, husks, chaff and. dust
left inside the equipment over the
winter hold moisture and promote
rusting of shafts, bearings and
sheet metal. Therefore, make
sure to clean all equipment and
machinery.During the cleaning
process, it is advisable to check
the machine for worm parts. Mr.
Kesslep suggests preparing a list

revenue up
The Huron Gaol has formally
closed for the winter months,
having concluded its third season
of operation as a federal historic
site. Attendance figures totalled
15,750, a slight increase over last
year.
The Board learned at its
Thursday, December 9 meeting
that operating receipts totalled
$22,415, slightly exceeding
expenditures which were $22,386
to November 30. The Board also
retains 'a small surplus account
for use during the off-season for
repairs, maintenance and further
restoration. Approximately
$8,000 will be used as preparation
are made for the 1977 season.
Anticipated repair work to the
walls, started in 1975, will be
curtailed until a future date.
Anticipated LIP funding was ,not-
forthcoming for this year. In other
financial business, Curator Harry
Bosnell advised the Board to
increase its budget allotment for
basic services to the facility,
citing the rapid increase4rin utility
costs that have occurred over the
last year and which are expected
to continue.
Cataloguing of the historic
artifacts on view at the gaol is
near. completion. Records were
prepared by the Curator and
Dorothy Wallace, the Board's
Refurbishing Committee
Chairperson,
An annual meeting is scheduled
for early in the new year. At that
time elections will be held for new
Board officers and appointments
will be renewed for Municipal
members of the Board.
