to the Board that the premium
payment be approved, Mr.
Dunlop noted that the consultant
-did not feel that the Board could
better itself •at this time with
respect to the current insurance
market without running a certain
amount of risk.
"His advice would be," Mr.
Dunlop noted, "to live with the
existing renewal for this year and
give consideration to a possible
reassessment of the situation in
August of 1977." •
Maurice BW,en, first vice
president of the Huron
Federation of Agriculture has
reported several enquiries to the
Federation's area office
regarding leasing land to oil
' companies.
Farmers should request the
person representing an oil
company to produce a licence
from the Ministry of Energy
before discussing oil leasing.
The going rate is $1 per acre,
however some farmers have been
apprciached to sign leases at 50
cents per acre, Farmers should be
informed that the lease will be
registered to their deed for the
total term of the lease.
If an oil company is in default of
payment t..i subsequent years, the
landowner will discover that the
lease remains attached to his
deed,until either the oil company
releases it or the farmer gets legal
help to prove that the lease is in
default.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural
Rieiources provides all oil
companies with a standard lease
with sections in it to protect the
lawrinYiner 'front Intern 114000.
Wore 401ling ,fox oils all
companies must apply to the
Ministry of Energy for a drilling'"
permit,, At this point, the Ministry
of Natural Resources insists op•
strict control of all eenstkhetiett to
protect the landowner, the •
Federation says.
Mr. Bean would recommend
thai-fartndrs should get legal
advice if, they're in doubt about
entering into an agreement with
an oil company. \
