Walton LICW Correspondent Betty McCall Phone 887-6677 The Walton Unit held their December meeting in form of a Christmas Party •when Copper Contest leader Mrs, Walter Bewley of the losing side entertained Mrs. Emerson Mitchell , leader of the winning side and other members of the unit and guests on Thursday evening. The basement 40 the church was prettily decorated in the traditional Christmas spirit. A Christmas Skit was given with parts taken by Mrs. Ray Huether, Mrs. Gerald Watson "and Mrs. Howard Hackwell. Mrs. Gordon Murray and Mrs. Roily Achilles were in charge of the gift exchange. Mrs. Ron Bennett presided for a few items-of business. Mrs. Allan McCall and Mrs. Wm. Thamer offered to be copper contest leaders for next year.• Mrs. Bill Courts conducted a couple of contests, then closed with naming the Christinas songs assisted by' Mrs. Huether at the piano: Church Service Sunday morning chuich service at Duff's United Church, third Sunday in Advent was entitled 'A Celebration of the preparation for Christ's coming. Welcoming worshippers to the service and giving out the order of service sheets . were Mr. and Mrs.' Allan Searle. Rev. Ed. Baker spoke "God seeks his people". The choir sang the anthem, "There is a voice in the wilderness" with Mrs. Ian Wilbee at the organ. The offering was received by Alvin McDOnaTd, Harvey - MCClure and Rae Huether. All are welcome to. come and enjoy the Sunday School Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 22 at 8:00 p.m, Reception and Dance A large crowd attended' the reception and dance at Family Paradise on Friday evening, December 10th for newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shortreed (nee. Valarie Rose) of R.R.#1, Walton. Prior to lunch the young couple were asked to' coy to the platform when an address of congratulations and best wishes was read , by Keith' Wilbee- behalf of neighbors and friends. Rick McDonald made the presentation of an envelope of Band sees film The December meeting of the Mission Band was held in the basement of the church during the Sunday morning church service. Call to Worship was given by Patricia Hackwell. Hymns, "0 little Town of Bethlehem" and "Joy to the World" were sung. Cheryl Smith read the scripture followed by Joyanne Van Vilet giving prayer. A filmstrip "Peter and the Hermit" was shown. Cheryl Fraser read the secretary's report followed by Cathy McG avin giving the • treasurer's report; then she received the collection which was dedicated by Patricia Hackwell. A sing song of Christmas Carols was enjoyed followed by another filmstrip, "The little engine that could." The members• then went to their classes with their regular teachers, Mrs. Merton Hackwell, Mrs. Mac Sholdice, Mrs. Neil McGavin and Mrs. Ross Bennett, UCW has dinne-r The McKillop U.C..W. Unit held their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Glenn McNichol with a dinner meal put on by the losing side of the comet contest. Mrs. M, }Inkwell was in charge of devotions, the theme being on Christmas Hymn 528 was read in unision followed by Mrs. C. Wey giving the prayer. Mrs. Hackwell gave the meditation "The Night That Was" which included a number of Christmas hymns. The offering was taken by Mrs. L. Godkin Mrs. Wey gave the topic "Guest of God this Christmas;'. Mrs. S. McCall president, thanked everyone who had taken part in devotions also Mrs. McNichol for her home Roll call was answered by giving ,a gift to ifie Chliaren's Aid. Mrs. M. Hackwell gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. S. Mr. William Bennett was a patient in Clinton Hospital then removed to Victoria Hospital, London on Saturday where heis to undergo surgery.
