In addition to high respiratory disease mortality figures, there is the added problem that lung diseases generally take a Fong time to develop, produce increasing disability and result in chronic illness, time lost from work, high medical costs and heavy economic losses to the Canadian economy. • .. More than' 18 thousand Canadians (18,132) died of respiratory diseases in 1974, an increase of more ,,,. than five hundred over the—Previous year. Emphysema and bronchitis, the fastest growing diseases in Canada claimed 2,750 lives in 1974. The respiratory disease morbidity rate tells an even more revealing story. On Saturday a car driven by John Janmatt of RR 2, Seaforth .was in collision with a car backing out of a parking area on South Main Street driven ,by William , Ward of RR 4, Walton.
